Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a great 220S that has an excellent body and frame. The only rust I found was near the back side of the battery area. There appears to be a rust through spot about 2" by 2". It is on the upright panel behind the battery. Not structural. Maybe acid at one time in the past 54 years corroded through. I did not find any other rust through or rust repair in the body panels or frame. All in all it is amazing this car has survived all these years without rust issues as many of these models do have. The paint is the original color, light blue (code 334 G). Paint is dull and has some imperfections and will need paint if you want to show the car. It has been repainted at sone point. There appears to be a dent or scratch fix on the drivers side rear door as seen in the picture. No bondo in it as I used a magnet to survey the area. I also went over the entire body with a magnet and did not find any plastic patch. There are some small dimples and scratches that will need to be corrected if you paint the car. Also the front right passenger fender was repaired from a fender bender type occurrence as the paint has cracked. No structure repair was done in that area and I could not find any other collision repair on the rest of the car. All the glass is in great shape without any cracks or chips. Some of the rubber seals have age cracking but not all. In my opinion I think the car was garaged most of its 54 years. Front and rear bumpers will need chrome for showing but the grille is in great shape. The wood interior is in good condition as seen in the pictures. The rear seat has been recovered in the past but the front is original with the driver seat having a tear and needing repair. They are vinyl. The headliner is in great condition. The rear armrest will need recovered as well as the door panels as they have faded and stained over the years. The radio does not work. The horn rim is missing a part that has broken off but still works. The steering wheel has some cracks. All the windows work as they should and all the doors open and close with that wonderful Mercedes engineering. Mechanically the car is very sound. It starts up right away. Brakes and clutch work properly and drives straight. The engine is a little rough at idle but runs quiet with no knocking or other noises. Tires are in good shape. The previous owner indicated some top end work was done in the past. It looks like the head was painted. Engine# - 1809248505648. I do not have the tool kit, just the jack. Overall this is a great car for the price I'm asking. With some cosmetic updating I think the value will be realized later on as it seems the prices on these sedans are on the increase. Look over the pictures and description and you be the judge. Email any questions. The car is available for inspection most any time. Location zip code is 37772 Anyone with zero feedback will need to contact me before bidding otherwise your bid will be cancelled. Sorry, but there are some people out there playing games. Only serious buyers please. Ask questions first not after the auction. Car is at sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel the auction if reserve not met.
