1983 Mercedes 380SL converted to a 500SL We towed this Mercedes in after the cam chain broke on the original 380 engine.I bought the car from the owner with the idea I would install a Chevy small block with a turbo automatic. The Chevy project was not going as planned, so I sent the car to Star Motor Service in Charleston, SC to have the engine problem evaluated. The engine block was damaged from a loose cam chain. Axel, the owner of Star, told me about an early 1990's 500SLC, one of his customers owned, that had been hit in the side. The SLC was not worth repairing so I bought it and the pros at Star Motor service did a complete 500 running gear swap into my 380. At the same time, Axel ordered factory replacement seat covers and installed them. I found a blue 1984 SL hard top that matches the original blue color of the convertible top and goes great with the silver blue color of the car. The car has been in my warehouse for over a year and with Springtime coming soon, I feel it is time to sell the car so someone else can enjoy this classic Mercedes roadster. I have a red 1992 500SL that will scratch my itch and fullfill my need for speed ! Please view posted photos for actual condition. Mileage on the running gear is less than 95,000 miles.
