1988 BMW ///M5 e28 WBSDC9303J2791034. Build date 1/87 (car number 35 of 1200+) I purchase this car in July 2003 with 107,420 miles on the odometer. The seller had owned the car since March of 1995 when he purchased the car with 85,795 miles. The car now has just over 141,000 miles. I ran a CARFAX prior to purchase and found four prior owners (including the person I purchased it from). Nothing unusual in the carfax. I still have that report. I have a stack of receipts for Maintenance and repairs that I have done to the car since my purchase. I also have some receipts form the prior owners dating back to October 1987 This is NOT a ragged out M5 that has been through a series of owners not cognizant of the upkeep requirements of these cars. I did not drive this car in the winter months since I owned it. The car has been driven about 3000 miles since February 2009 and has spent most of that time either sitting in the garage or driveway at my house. I have not driven the car since October of 2011. I just put a new battery in the car and it started right up. The last oil change was in December 2008 at 137,281 miles; diff oil changed 8/30/2008 at 134,547; coolant flush 7/11/08 at 134,117 and Valve adjustment and replacement of the cam chain tensioner 6/11/08 at 133,109. Additional service items: 4 new tires at 137,222 (12/08) KUMHO ECSTA SPT 17"Trans input seal 8/30/08 at 134,574Guibo and rear diff mounts at 134,574new clutch at 134,574Front steering and suspension checked..."all good" 134,574 I have these receipts and many more to back up all of this. All body panels are original..no accidents, interior is fair and shows wear typical with over 140K miles, Drives seat left side bolster will need repair (typical). The dash has several small cracks. There is some surface rust around the jacking points on the left side of the car but not the right. It looks like the protective paint may have been chipped off when prior owners jacked up the car. I find no other rust on the cars body panels. The paint is original and cleans up nicely for a 25 year old car. All switches for the seats work except the passenger side headrest switch works but the headrest does not move. The sunroof does not work (switch?) and the rear defroster switch sometimes sticks in the on position. I think the sunroof drain may be clogged as sometimes I get water in the footwell on the drivers side. The A/C is not working. The power steering hoses are leaking ( don't know how major this is) The self leveling suspension was replaced prior to my purchase and the installed "sport suspension" is a little harsh for my taste. The car does NOT have the as delivered M5 basket weaves but the later e39 17" wheels. The car is going to need some TLC to bring it back to its former glory. I have tried to give a comprehensive description of the car is it now sits. Please let me know if you have additional questions. I have always tried to keep ahead of the big issues relative to keeping these cars alive. I no longer have the interest to continue as the car has been essentially parked for most of the last 3 years. I am offering the car at NO RESERVE sold as is where is, no warranties expressed or implied. Buyer is responsible for transportation arrangements. YES the car is driveable! A $500 non refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of auction ending with full payment within 7 days.
