Vehicle Detail

This is a running car that has had a tuneup and has had the carburetor rebuilt, adjusted and tuned. Good clutch, brakes, exhaust, etc. New fuel pump and clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and hydraulic hose. Car fires right up, has a good charging system, and handles great! I have never driven it on any long trips, just local short trips, and it has run very well. 59,000 actual miles on the car. I bought it from the original owner a few years ago.. This is the 1-year-only 1980 Limited Edition model that was the last year of production for the MGB. Approx.10,000 were made - 8000 exported worldwide. There is some floor rust on driver's floor which is unfortunately typical on convertible MGB's, and even a low mile car is not immune because it is 32 years old- this car was driven less than 2000 miles per year. The rust was caused by water sitting on the carpet. Structurally, though, the car is sound. The car has never been restored at all except a little touchup especially on the trunk, and has a very "straight" body (looking at it from a bodyman's perspective) and decent interior- in fact it still has the original paint which has patina but still shines. The sides of the car are not bowed outward like 95% of MGB's. Side stainless trim is very good. Tires are the original size and style that the car came with when new, and the car has 5 original Limited wheels There are a few surface rust spots around some of the chrome trim pieces (but they have been treated with rust inhibitor so they are not growing), and there is a small hole in front driver fender and 1 in rocker panel. Paint and Union Jack decals are still ok. Carpet is getting old, but it looks good. Seats are nice. The car is 100% original in every way so you can use the car for reference for correct restoration. Correct dash plaque, spoiler, pollution pump air pump (and all the pollution equipment is still intact), original tools with original tool bag, original jack and jack bag, rear chrome rack, top cover etc. Top is in good condition with a good top cover plus tonneau. Tonneau cover is in good shape with all buttons and zippers working. The Limited Edition is very rare now, so this should be" the" car worthy of a restoration if you are going to restore one. Body has some surface rust especially around the rear fender tops and around the various chrome pieces, but the body is above average in what you could call "straightness", and that will speed the restoration and the results will look great. The 2 floor shots are both sides of the front edge of the inner floors with the carpet peeled back. Of course the driver's side is the worst. I have also included shots of both sides rocker panels and 2 shots sighting down the sides. I do not know why the right side decal is not perfectly straight. It may have had some body damage a long time ago. I tapped on all the bottoms of fender, door, and lower rear fender and could not sense any bondo there. There is a small repair on the upper side of the passenger door, so maybe they repainted the door or replaced the fender and just put a new decal on, or maybe their quality control was off on the decal. I have listed the car with no reserve. I have a couple of new badges that go with the car, and the original leather wrapped steering wheel has been removed since the pictures were taken because it needs to be restored. It is the correct leather wheel with the large center horn button I have installed a stock MGB steering wheel from a non- Limited car because it looks better for the time being. Windows roll up and down just fine. There is some minor warpage to the bottoms of both door panels. I have repaired the flat tire- it had a slow leak that turned out to be a bad valve stem. Also the shots down the sides were old pictures that show the lines of the sides - pictured is a hardtop, but I no longer have the hardtop. Car is completely driveable right now with 75psi oil pressure, stock exhaust with catalytic convertor, and original carb. It has had the unreliable stock distributor and module replaced with older style distributor that has reliable points-and you can install a Lumenition pickup to replace the points if you are worried about points needing to be adjusted occassionally. I have had so many distributor failures with the Lucas distributors on many MG's that I have owned over the last 35 years that I do not trust the stock module any more. You can always get home with a points file and a screwdriver to open the points up.
