Vehicle Detail
This 1984 Volkswagen GTI was on display at Volkswagen Of America headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan for approximately seven years. Volkswagen's recent move to Virginia caused the car to be sold in March of 2011. The car was sold new in late 1983 and was kept by the original owner until 2004, when it was purchased by a Volkswagen employee and put on display in the small corporate museum. The car has approximately 93,117 miles and comes with all books and complete service documentation. Since my purchase the car has been recommissioned with the following items replaced: 4 Bridgestone RE960 185/60-14 tires, 4 Koni STR shocks, strut bearings, drive axles and seals, battery, brake calipers, flexible brake lines, rear wheel cylinders, rear brake shoes, emergency brake cables, ball joints, rear wheel bearings, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, distributor cap, shift linkage bushings and gas tank. The original owner replace the front wheel bearings, front rotors and pads at 87,000 miles and the alternator and timing belt at 88,000 miles. The interior is in near mint condition with the exception of a small piece missing from the dash panel in the upper right corner, the result of an aftermarket radio installation (I have been trying to locate an uncut panel). I have removed the radio, but it is included with the car. The car does not have a sunroof. The factory options were radio prep, rear speakers and opening vent windows. The exterior is original with the following exceptions. The driver's side front fender, door and quarter have been repainted, the passenger rear quarter has been repainted below the belt line and the valance under the rear bumper has been repaired. The balance of the car's finish is very good, but does show small chips and scratches from 30 plus years of use. The wheels are in very good condition with some loss of clear coat and very light curb rash. The original window label, build sheet, owner's manual, maintenance book, a large file of repair orders and the Michigan plate which the car carried while in the VW museum are include with the sale. The car is on a clear New York State title. I am selling due to too many other projects, including a 1965 Lotus Elan which is currently in pieces scattered about the garage and basement. I require payment by wire transfer only. I urge any prospective buyers to inspect the car before bidding. I can be reached at 607-745-6482 anytime.
