Vehicle Detail
1981 Volkswagen Vanagon Westphalia camper 1981 Westy camper in good working order. It lived in CA most of its life with a brief span in KS and now in Houston, TX area (passed state inspection). Never spent a winter in the snow and salt, so nearly rust-free. 2.0 Air-cooled engine, 4-speed manual transmission, unknown miles, but odometer reads 136,000 and we added about 6,000 more in the last year. The Westy has a clean Michigan title; there's a photo of the clean title in the images. Michigan salvage titles are orange, clean ones are green. We bought it from Kansas with a clear title. I don't know why it comes up as a "junk title" on the vehicle history report and believe that to be a mistake. Look closely at the dates in the report, and you'll see it did get simply a "title" on the same date. Ebay won't allow the listing to say clean title because of that conflict, but it does have a clean title. New light-truck tires with hardly any wear, new muffler, new ignition wires, distributer cap and spark plugs, new seal around the engine. Had it checked out summer of 2011 and got a clean bill of health, but mechanic said it would need the typical seasonal tuning like all air-cooled Westies. We have driven it between TX and MI twice. Dash lights are out, and the gas gauge, speedometer, and odometer are not functioning properly (common problem, but we learned to live with it). New regulator for the propane - stove and fridge work great! Pop top canvas in good shape – no holes. Replaced the zipper on the screen with Velcro when it broke. Fabric seats are a little worn. Carpet excellent and it has plastic lining on top to keep the dirt from getting ground in. New crank handles for the windows. Comes with a canopy and poles, fully enclosed 2-room side-tent that attaches at sliding door (not pictured), hitch, bra, mini ice cube trays, screen for rear hatch, privacy curtain for windshield, both swing-out tables, ready for a Yakima or similar roof rack. We wish we could keep it, but my husband has a head injury from being hit by a car while cycling and we don't know how long it will take him to recover and return to work. Although we love the Westy, we decided we needed the money more.
