Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1958 220S needing full restoration. It has the rare Webasto sunroof. It has a rebuilt motor with approx. 500 miles on it according to the previous owner before he stored it away. I have the receipts for the complete rebuild from a machine shop in Crown Point Indiana at a cost of $3533.00. The car has not been on the road for some 10 to 11 years. I initially purchased the car for the motor and rebuilt master cyl and other parts but after inspecting this car I believe it could be a salvageable sunroof car. I did treat the cylinders before turning over the engine. I got it running from starting fluid but for some reason it will not siphon the gas from an auxiliary tank, may be the fuel pump is clogged. Hopefully I'll have it running from the tank by end of auction. I checked compression and all 6 come up at 150 without the engine running for awhile just from cranking over. The engine sounded very strong, no knocking or other noises. Ran really smooth for the short time it did run. The oil that was in it was like it was just changed out, very clean. The clutch cylinder and brakes are not working having been off the road for so long. It will need to be winched on any transporter. If I have time I might fiddle with them. The original seats are cloth but have been covered with a vinyl - not sure on condition of the cloth but must be worn if covered. No radio Left front fender damaged but not framing behind it. There is some rust in the typical locations on these cars but in my opinion some light welding can fix it. All the wood will need to be sanded and refinished. Headliner will need replacing as well as the sunroof material. It is a restoration car but does have some good bones to it especially being a sunroof car and rebuilt engine. Any other questions send an email. I have the car for sale locally and may end the auction early if sold before reserve is met. The car is stored at zip code 37772 just 20 miles West of Knoxville Tn. The car is available for anyone to look it over before auction end. On Mar-22-12 at 14:12:34 PDT, seller added the following information: The clear title indicates only the last 7 numbers of the Vin# which identifies this specific car. The full Vin# is 180011N-8508997 - this is the number stamped into the right front frame and on all the other ID plates. I indicated 180010 on my original listing due to the fact that there was paint overspray on the ID Tags and missed the correct digit of 1 rather than 0. The 180011N identifies the body style as a factory sunroof issue. I have pictures of the frame ID as well the ID plate but unable to upload at this point to eBay. If anyone wants them send your email. Sorry for the oversight and thank you to the viewer that brought this to my attention. Also, I do have the air filter assembly - it was not in the picture of the engine bay. I do not have any keys with the car as the previous owner could not find them. I am working on obtaining a duplicate key. Currently we are bypassing the connection for the electrical current through the key switch.
