Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE I am relisting my 1965 Mercury Cyclone. I have owned this car for ten years. I collect muscle cars and bought this one from a gentleman who owned the car for some time and did all the restoration work. I have taken this car to shows and it almost always wins an award of one type or another. I am selling this and some other stuff due to my collection simply getting too big and the ability to drive the car is becoming harder. This car is too nice to sit. As for originality, the car is all original with the exception of it was originally a 3 speed column car. The conversion was done very well on the inside of the car although the guy did leave some of the old linkage on the steering column that should probably be removed. The car is an original 1965 Cyclone (decoding can be found at a web site named Mercurystuff), black exterior and red interior. The paint really shines and always gets compliments, although as with any older car it is not perfect. The interior is 100% drop dead gorgeous! The red color is original and is bright “lipstick” red. The wood grain steering wheel and wood grain shifter knob look great. The car has the cyclone gauge package and a “stock appearing” operational tach sits on the dash. The car also has the fiberglass hood with cowl induction. The hood was painted with the car so it is a 100% match on color and finish. The hood looks great and makes the car look very aggressive from the front. I also have the old steel hood. All glass is stamped original Fomoco from the factory. The motor is an original 4 barrel 289 hydraulic lifter motor. The car was manufactured with a 289 4-barrel so I believe it is the original motor. The engine runs great, revs fast and has a great deal of power. It was rebuilt just before I bought the car, does not leak, and has never had any issue of any type. I have the original style Super Cyclone breather as seen in the pictures. The car weighs 2,594 lbs (title weight) and if you want to move, just push the gas and hang on. The transmission and clutch work very well. The car shifts smooth and you get no slippage or any other kind of performance hindrance if you want to run it. The rear is a posi 9 inch and has no issues at all. The trunk is solid and has stock mat in place. Jack is original. I have all the original wheel covers and will sell them with the car. I do not have any steel wheels. The tires on the car are kind of big for this model. They look great, but you need to keep them de-inflated so they do not rub. I have not driven this car much at all since I bought it. The brakes are good, the gas flows well, engine runs well, and the car is a pleasure to drive. The car does have stock dual exhaust pipes but was fitted with flowmaster mufflers which really makes the car sound nice. The old AM radio works well, heat works well, etc. If has an old period correct FM converter that also works. All the chrome and emblems on the car are 100% and really set the car off from a style perspective. There is TONS of chrome on this car when you look at the interior and exterior (I collect mainly Chevrolets and none of them are as dressed up as this car is, none of them). A couple things on the car I will point out. First of all, as you look at these cars they all have 40+ years of age, repair and other stuff that unless you want to spend $40k plus you are going to get. So here is the full disclosure of what you will see that is not 100% on the car. There is a spot on the front passenger fender where some bodywork was not 100% completed prior to painting the car. You do not see discoloration, if you really look hard you can see what appears to be some lines under the paint (no cracking). The driver’s floorboard was repaired at some point. Unless you get under the car, you don’t see any of this but it has been patched. The suspension work done on the front to get the larger tires under the car was done with spacers vs. heavy duty springs. I would change them over if it was my only old car. One last thing I will tell you about this car. If you are a Mercury or Ford person, you know how hard it is to find any car of this age intact. I received this comment last time I listed the car and cannot agree more:Dear bccawilson, We just restored a 65 caliente black with red interior We had 9000.00 dollars in chrome alone folks i have not seen this car up close or know the seller but this is a deal !!!! (note people thought mine was a gto ) - jrdlsd If you had to find some of the pieces for this car to restore it or just make it complete, you would need to search for months or years. The nice thing about this car is it is 100% all there. All the emblems are in place. The interior is complete and looks great. Everywhere it should say Cyclone it does, everywhere it should say Comet it does. If you know what you are looking at, you know how rare it is to find one of these in this shape, with this drive train, and to the degree it is original. I will also tell you, if you take this car to a show or cruise night, you are almost always the only one there with a 1965 Mercury Cyclone. I always have people ask me what it is and overheard a guy once tell his son it was a Nova J. I am selling this car to downsize my collection but mainly to get the car to a home where someone will use it on a regular basis. Last year, I probably only drove the car two or three times. I just sold a 1963 406 Galaxie for the same reason. These cars are too nice to sit and dry out. I do not need to sell this car, so please no crazy offers for trade or low amounts of money. I hope you enjoy looking at it (the pictures make it look great because it does look great). Drop me an email or call me at (804)357-1297 if you want to talk about it, be glad to answer any questions. Thanks.
