Vehicle Detail
1979 (I think) Suzuki JR50. I garbage picked it last year on my way home from work! No kidding! I saw a wheel sticking out from a pile of junk, and there was a motorcycle connected to it! I tossed it into the trunk and took it home. When I got it home, the first thing I did is open the gas cap and smell. Ahh the smell of bad gas! Removed carb. Junk. Throttle slide stuck, choke stuck, float bowl filled with a black tarry substance. Tried to soak in acid, so bad I scrapped it. Bought a new one here on ebay. Drained engine oil, bad. Years old. Drained oil from oil injection tank. Came out like thick honey. Yuk. Put some pre mix gas in it. Kicked multiple times. It started! Ran good and idled. Put it in gear, drove to the end of my driveway and back. Clutch worked fine, trans shifted fine. Brakes work, suspension works. The good: Very good condition for it's age. Some signs of minor repainting. Gas tank clean and rust free and almost perfect. Two small dings on the seam at the front where someone turned the handlebars too far. Tires very good with no real signs of dry rot. Side covers very good. Very good compression. Clutch and trans shifts well. No strange ring noise when running. Runs quiet, without any knocking. Seat pan and foam nearly perfect. Chrome is very good with only minor cleanup needed. No oil leaks. Forks work well, super condition and no signs of leakage. The bad: Hard to start. Kick and kick. I removed the points cover, started it, and saw the points sparking like crazy. Needs new points and condenser. That should take care of the starting problem. I covered the seat with some old vinyl and need a proper job done. Seat foam is quite good though. Chain is rusty looking, but turns ok. Fenders have substantial sun damage. tape on the throttle cable, works ok though. Old injector oil needs to be removed from the pump. Missing the filter element for the air filter. Shipping: Local pickup encouraged, but I'm willing to disassemble it somewhat, wrap it in bubble wrap, and put it into a box. I quick checked the FEDEX website, and for the weight plus 10 lbs for packaging (95 lbs) it quoted $60.00 to Los Angeles, $95.00 to Chicago. I am also willing to take suggestions if you have a better way. I won't charge anything extra disassembly or for packing or shipping. Just the real cost to ship. I will use bubble wrap and find a good box. I can deliver to a shipper in Vegas. You tell me how you want it shipped. Box? Freight? Forward Air? UPS? FEDEX? Greyhound? You pay actual shipping, I box it for free. Feel free to ask questions, or to ask for specific pictures. I didn't use any armor all to make it look better. What you see is what it is! I'm selling it because I never really wanted this project anyway. To install new points, I would have to buy a new flywheel puller, and I would never use it again so here it is.
