Vehicle Detail

It's time to sell my baby - I bought her new in 1988 in San Jose, CA and put quite a few miles on her over the next 15 years commuting to jobs in the Bay Area. Since then, she's lived in Jackson Hole, WY, being driven occasionally, but I don't get there often enough to justify keeping her and don't have the time now (or the inclination) to put her through a restoration project although she's in very good shape for her age and mileage. Her high points: the paint is in very good shape (she has always been garaged, both at home and at work) and there is absolutely no rust, as she's always lived in a dry climate. The interior is in very good shape and shows very little wear; the front seats were replaced with identical versions from a very low mileage car in 2005. Mechanically, the car has required little maintenance over the years. The only replacements I can remember are the radiator, a couple of expansion tanks, and one set of shocks. Because she's never been used for stop and go driving, just long-distance commutes, the clutch is original and because of the dry climates, the exhaust system is even original. Cosmetic issues: There is one bit of parking lot rash on the passenger door, a couple small rock dents in the hood, and the air dam is scuffed and could use painting. Some a__hole sideswiped her on a street in 2002 and scuffed the drivers mirror and cracked the mirror glass. Miscellaneous points: For most of her life, she was maintained at German Autokraft in Belmont, CA, one of the Bay Area's best BMW/Mercedes specialists. I changed out the metric rims many years ago so it would be easier and cheaper to replace tires. The rear end load leveling mechanism was intentionally disabled in the 1990's - it was too much trouble to keep it working (actually, I didn't even know it was there until it malfunctioned) and I never noticed the difference. The instruments in the cluster behave oddly - it's possible there's a bad ground or something that affects several of the instruments. The cruise control works and is the most sensible and convenient one I've ever encountered in any car. I think this would be an ideal car for someone who doesn't want to spend a lot of money for a great-looking (she still gets comments when I take her out), great-driving, fun sports sedan. Or for someone who's looking for a great platform for a project to bring her back to pristine, like-new condition.
