Vehicle Detail
1970 Challenger convertible up for auction. Here's your chance to own a very desirable e body convertible at a reasonable price. I found this car in a garage where it resided since 1980. This was originally a b5 blue car with white power top that was repainted brown. It is a 318 2 barrel car with air conditioning and auto transmission. I have not checked the motor and trans vin against the rest of the vin numbers but believe it to be ALL numbers matching, I can verify if needed. I put a battery in the car and tried the top, it raised and lowered, then put the car away. The dr. side front fender is gone but i have another one, in good shape, that will go with the car. It was hit in the dr. side rear quarter as seen in the photos. It is all there along with the original hub caps it came with. Needs to be restored but will be a beautiful car when done, Blue exterior, black interior and white top! Found a build sheet but it was not for this car, but could still have one as I have not looked in all those hiding spots. All in all it is in great shape for 40+ years old, due in part to being a factory undercoated car. No holes cut into the door panels either. I was going to restore it, but have just found another challenger I want and must sell to purchase it. Ask any ?'s you may have and I will try to answer them. Will help with shipping or loading should you want to pick it up yourself. On Mar-09-12 at 12:28:19 PST, seller added the following information: Updates on the convertible! The rear quarter is worst than I thought and may need replacing, ask your body guy first, those run $159 to 359 on ebay. It does not appear to have bend the frame rail as no undercoating was knock off or loosened from the hit. I saw no rust in the frame rails either, undercoating still in tact. Trunk pan was patched and needs replaced for sure. Drivers door is sprung and drivers seat is sprung/twisted out of shape but not broke, still latches and unlatches. Front floor pans only has 1 small hole behind pass. side seat, where front n rear meet, dr. rear has a small hole also and I would not replace either one. Dr. side rear pan is bent/buckled down and requires straightening. Firewall has small rust are near brake booster, easily repaired. Pass side inner fender has a area pushing up at the top, not enough for me to replace, just repair. Grille is bent on dr. side but can be straightened. There is a bezel for that side in the trunk. Center console is in trunk and is broke, should be replaced. Extra carb in trunk, breather, scuff plates, body side mouldings, and misc pieces also. Windshield chrome on dr. side is dented but easily straightened. Boot is there on car. dr. side rear marker light needs replacing. front valance is junk but has parking lights still attached and 1looks to be useable. Looked at the trans and now believe it to have been replaced but will call the previous owner and get an answer on that. Both chrome mirrors are broke. I do not want anyone to be unhappy with this car. If you are the winner, come to get it and find it is not what you wanted, like, or wasn't as described then simply call the deal off. We both should be happy and that is why I have 100% feedback. On Mar-10-12 at 06:04:24 PST, seller added the following information: To clarify why I would not replace the small rust areas is because a good body can easily use a welding spoon to weld the holes back up. Thats how minor/small they are. On Mar-13-12 at 18:50:14 PDT, seller added the following information: I checked the vin on the motor and it matches all the other vin numbers on the car. However I did not find the number on the trans. I found NO numbers yet. I did find some writing on the trans on the top of the bell housing that says sold. So I am guessing it does not match. I still have not talked to the previous owner about that. His name and number will be given to the winner, so that person can get a lot of the cars history should they be so inclined. If the trans number bothers you, please cancel your bid as I do not want the winner to say "this car was not as described" after the auction ends. On Mar-14-12 at 07:19:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Well, my last revision caused a lot of confusion. So let me try to clear that up, I was not able to get under the car far enough to see the numbers on the tranny. Since it was on the ground and I only had a floor jack. So there are numbers on the trans, I just cant say they match the car. They may, may not. That is what i wanted to convey to everyone interested. You would be wiser to assume they dont so you will not be dissappointed, but if they did elated! Thanx for all the questions and let me know if you have any other ?'s. Thanx again and good luck...........Mike
