Vehicle Detail
I added a photo of the speedometer as many of you requested it, since exported T-Birds with metric speedometers (in kilometers) are rare and so rarely seen or become available on Ebay. I will pass along the original copy of the build sheet / invoice from the factory which in addition to showing that this car was handled by Ford Motor's Export Operations who shipped it to the Middle East, also shows that the car came from the factory with the metric speedo. The invoice also shows that the car came with 10 gallons of gas....that cost a total of $4.14. I also loaded a couple of photos of the undercarriage. This is a NO RESERVE auction. This fully optioned T-Bird is as rare as she is beautiful and has led quite the exoctic life. She was exported right off the Ford production line to her first home in the Middle East to what I believe was a wealthy Middle Eastern family. I don't know how many T-Birds were built with metric speedometers (i.e. kilometers per hour) and shipped by the Ford export operation to exoctic ports of call, but the numbers have to be limited. After tweny years the original buyer gave the car to his daughter who lived in London, England, where I'm told it was garaged and seldom driven. The car wasn't registered in the United States until 1989, when it was purchased by a nuclear engineer who lived in the southeast. The nuclear engineer sold the car to a car dealer in the south who kept on display in his showroom for the next 22 years. So while I can't certify that the 58,615 miles (i.e. 94,332 kilometers) are original, the car's history suggest that it might be. I bought the car and am quite happy with it, but have to sacrifice to make room for more toys. EXTERIOR - The body on this car is absolutely gorgeous. This car may have one of the nicest paint jobs that I've seen on a 57 T-Bird that's not a trailer queen. I truthfully can say that I don't see any blemishes or flaws with the paint. The bumpers look practically new and those gorgeous wire wheels ARE new. The rest of the chrome is fair, but could use a good buffing to bring back the original gleam. The car has a nice convertible top but no hard top. INTERIOR - The car has the popular black & white interior and black carpeting, all of which I'd say is in fair condition. The interior's brushed aluminum pieces are a little tired but the black padded dash is in nice shape. The car is heater delete (remember it was built for and shipped to the Middle East) but has the original Town & Country radio. The car has power steering, power windows, power brakes and power seats, all of which are in fully working order OPERATION - She starts up every time and runs fine. Despite not being all dressed up and shined up under the hood, everything is operational. However, since I've only driven the car 100 or so miles around town before putting her away for the winter, I can't offer too much in the way of historical details on her manners. I did have a little episode when I filled her up with gas, only to find that there was a small pinhole at the middle seam of the tank. I will get a new tank in there or pass another one along with the car when it sells. Overall, this is a beautiful looking T-Bird. She's not a showcar, but is a really sweet looking driver that with just a little bit of attention could easily be taken to the next level.
