Vehicle Detail
I will post videos on YouTube and additional photos on Photobucket by Saturday (search Littoralrights for both Youtube and Photobucket) of the car with the engine starting and running. I also taped my video camera to a rake along with an LED flashlight and took movies under the car. Not the best, but will give you an idea of the condition underneath. I'll also post additional pictures on my PhotoBucket account and provide links to each below if Ebay allows the links. I was 7 years old in 1967 when my Dad bought this car from it's original owner. Got to ride in the passenger seat with him when we brought it home. I have the original loan's paper work and original title showing mileage at time of sale was 25,000. Today the car has just 33,000 and been garaged at least since we have owned it for the last 45 years. The car still has it's original paint, however it is thin in spots and has the expected amount of flaws for it's age. The interior, including carpet, seats, and headliner are all original and never touched. The plastic seat coverings are custom and are replacements for the ones that came with the car. The car always captures a 1st place trophy in any show for original cars. It is a very nice car with no rust to speak of and can be enjoyed in the shape its in, or if you choose, have the paint freshened up. Since I have had possession of the car in 2002 I have replaced, added, or repaired the following: Stainless (by Classic Tube) steel brake linesRelined brakes and turned drumsStainless steel transmission linesStainless steel fuel line-one pieceValve job after valve stuckOverhauled oil pump by Packard Club New custom made plastic seat coversNew wide white wall tiresSandblasted and re-painted all 5 wheelsRemoved, cleaned and sealed fuel tank using POR 15 productsPowdered coated many of the under hood componentsChromed valve coversComes with car cover The steering wheel from this car was used a a mold for replicas 56J wheels by the Shrock Brothers. I have had the interior out of the car in order to remove the bolts and lift the body a couple inches off the frame in order to install the fuel line in one piece. I found no rust on the car's floor or in the trunk. Back in the 80's a repair was made to the passenger side rocker panel. This same rocker panel is now showing signs of needing attention again. It should show up in either the videos or pictures. OK, pay attention, this is important. This car has a bad crankshaft that allows the oil pressure to bleed off after engine has run for about 20 minutes. It will drop off to near zero at idle after 20 minutes and the lifters will start to rattle. Increasing RPM will bring up oil pressure enough to quite lifters. This car needs to have the engine removed and the crankshaft repaired. I've had the heads off and the cylinders are in great shape. It would be my recommendation to just pull the crank out leaving the pistons in the bore if possible and add the cam oiling mod that Jack Vine offers. Maybe consider the oil pump mod Joe Hall offers, but pump installed has mods by the Packard Club. This car is in very good original condition. It may be the best unrestored 1956 Golden Hawk on the planet. For an original car, it would be hard to be disappointed with this car. I've had the curator at the "Glacier Girl" Museum in Middlesboro, KY look at the car and say to his friend, "I don't see where this has been repainted....... no tape lines on the weatherstrip". Bear in mind this car has 60 year old paint and is not perfect. Thanks for your bid and good luck. I live in a mountanous area and can either drive the car to town or have you hire a wrecker to bring it to the transporter. If I drive it there, I need prove of insurance for a total loss. Payment to by 7 days, non-refundable deposit of $500.00 due at close of auction. On Mar-01-12 at 19:55:59 PST, seller added the following information: Dad's 73 Avanti with only 57,000 miles also had a problem with bearing and crank failure. I think both cars were stored with dirty oil and the bearings were eaten by the acids. Funny thing about this Packard engine. All the rod bearings looked like they were brand new and never installed. The Ultramatic is tight and smooth, but both shift linkage shafts need new seals. The car is blessed by not having any power accessories to maintain. The rear axle has Mobil one and new seals and grease in the outboard bearings. On Mar-03-12 at 14:32:46 PST, seller added the following information: Here it is, the info you have been waiting for, additional photos at Photobucket and videos at YouTube Just cut and paste to your browsers address bar Photobucket http://s608.photobucket.com/profile/LittoralRights Video's at YouTube http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=littoralrights&oq=littoralrights&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=3&gs_upl=3281l7351l0l7974l14l14l0l1l1l0l93l1070l13l13l0
