Vehicle Detail

1962 Triumph TR3B, very rare TCF series, beautifully preserved survivor This is an extremely nice, well-maintained, 1962 Triumph TR3B survivor with original, certified 59,991 miles. The serial number is TCF2719L, which makes it a very late TR3B, about the 85th car from the end of production of the entire TR3 line. This is the desirable late TCF series with factory installed TR4 engine and TR4 fully synchromesh transmission. Much of this TR3 is original and untouched- a true survivor. It has been pampered since new and carefully maintained. There are absolutely no rust issues, all factory sheet metal is present and solid throughout, and it is a sweetheart to own and drive. Exterior Much of the exterior paint is factory original. It shows well, but has various small dings, scratches, and imperfections as would be expected on a 50 year old sports car, and the paint is thin in a few spots. The doors, hood, trunk lid, and spare tire compartment lid all fit and close very well. Interior The interior is mostly original, including the seats which are red with white piping. The gauges are excellent and work perfectly. The dash is original, with the rare covered center section only found on the very late TR3B. The factory option adjustable steering wheel is in perfect condition without any sign of cracking. The top bows are in nice condition, still with the original paint and webbing. In addition to the adjustable steering wheel, this car has the optional rear seating, rather than the carpeted parcel area. Engine, transmission, wire wheels If you’ve not had a TR3 before, you are in for a real treat as a good TR3 is a pleasure to drive. And with the more powerful TR4 engine, things are even more fun. The engine lights immediately, revs strong and true with no hesitation. Oil pressure is excellent, water temperature stays nice and cool. Shifting is smooth and precise with the fully synchronized transmission, the clutch takes up evenly, and the brakes pull straight and strong. The engine bay is tidy and clean but is not to concours standards- just decent and presentable as original. Underneath the driveline is reasonably dry and the fuel system and carburetors are free of leaks. The charging system works well as does the cooling system. Incidentally, the original ductwork for the radiator (made of a fiberboard) is all original and in nice shape. All the wheels are recent and perfect chrome wire wheels (including the spare), with very low mileage bias ply whitewall tires. The wheel adapters (splines) and knockoffs were all replaced with the wheels and of course, are perfect. Extras included and spares Included with the TR3 is a complete toolkit, tool roll, a later Thor knock off hammer, jack, convertible top, side curtains, tonneau cover, top boot, extra floor mats, and numerous spares and extra bits. Also included are the factory service manual, owner’s manual, sales information, and the hard to find Bill Piggott book “Triumph by Name, Triumph by Nature”. I have the title in hand which is ready to sign over to you. About the pictures and a link to more For those of you who are as picky as me, I have posted a full display of photographs at the following address- http://milepost105.smugmug.com/Cars/1963-Triumph-TR3B-TCF-2719L/17014675_kmJSX6 You’ll be able to enlarge the photos and check for more details. The observant ones will note that some of the pictures show a front badge with red and black, the more recent ones with the original blue and black badge. An earlier owner liked the red and black badge as it coordinated with the car’s colors. Of course, that bit of non-originality drove me crazy, so I re-installed the blue and black badge and those pictures were taken in the last few days. Your satisfaction guarantee Buying a vintage sports car on eBay is not for the faint of heart, so let me make this clear- if you are the high bidder, feel free to have this car inspected by you (or a qualified person on your behalf) before it is shipped. If I have misrepresented it in any way, if it is not as good or better than described, then you do not have to take it and your deposit will be fully refunded. I welcome you to come see this TR3B either personally or through a friend or mechanic. You are welcome to drive it and inspect it thoroughly. I’ll happily give you my phone number if you email me and wish to discuss the car by telephone. Auction rules If you intend to or are bidding on this item with a very low or a "0" rating, please contact me direct by email so I can confirm your intentions. I am not discriminating against new folks- heck I had a 0 rating at one point, but I don't want to sell this great Triumph to a ghost. I reserve the right to cancel bids from bidders with unacceptably high negative feedback numbers or low numbers and 0 numbers that do not verify directly with me. I apologize for any inconvenience. Twenty-five percent deposit within 7 days, balance within 30 days, or when the car is picked up or shipped, whichever occurs first. I am willing to help make the arrangements for shipping if you choose to ship. Thanks for bidding- These Triumphs are hard to find in original, low mileage, unmodified condition. This is especially true of the very desirable late TCF series TR3B. So if you are looking for a fun British car, if you are stickler for originality like me, and if you want a rare survivor that is ready to drive and enjoy, I think you’ve found your car. On Feb-21-12 at 18:00:21 PST, seller added the following information:Two additional bits of information for you: a) The engine number is TCF2665E (stamped on block near the coil); b) This is such a late 1962 TR that it wasn't sold and titled until 1963. The title shows it as a 1963. Anything else you need, just ask and I'll get it for you. Thanks. On Feb-25-12 at 16:42:41 PST, seller added the following information: ELEVEN NEW PHOTOGRAPHS: This morning (25 February) I took additional photographs for you, primariy of the underside of the TR3B. If you click on the link in the description above, you'll find them all. That file is now 2 pages, so be sure to check the second page for the newest photos. Although the Triumph has not been cleaned and detailed underneath, you'll undoubtedly be able to see that it is very straight and wonderfully rust free. Thanks for your interest.
