Vehicle Detail
This is a 1973 Volkswagen Thing 181. It has a fresh 1600cc single port engine with brannd new carb and crank start. YOu can either start the car with the ignition like everyone else or you can really get some attention in the parking lot by grabbing the crank start handle, walking to the rear of the car and crank the car by hand. Brand new exhaust. The upholstery has been redone with new padding and new vinyl upolstry from TMI. The pans are nice and solid but do have some surface rust on the bottom from driving it around. The fresh engine has maybe 500 miles on it. The Thing has fresh Rader repop wheels with new hardware. The wheels are wrapped in new smart car tires. 155/60 15s in the front and 185/60 15s in the rear. The car is lowered in all four corners. The front has a fresh scratch built 2 inch narrowed beam with stock beetle spindles. The rear has been re-indexed and the spring plates have been notched. The brakes have been gone through and rebuilt along with all wheel bearing being replaced. The top frame is ingood shape and the top is nice with no tears. It is an old school canvas top... older but still very nice quality. The window curtains have had the clear plasics replaces by polycarbonate windows, decent quality for a driver. Trans shifts great with a recent fuild change. There is a vw shift lock accessory installed so noone can mess with the car and take it out of gear when you arent around. The original gas heater is still intact and installed in the car but I have disconnected the fuel line from it because I do not use it. There are a couple spots on the fenders with a little rust showing and a small patch on the rear drivers crossmember area. I just have more Volkswagens than I have garage space. New alternator. Comes with a showbar. The Thing has a new battery also. New Thing shop top latches in stainless steel. The paint is an older satin finish paint with chips from use. Not a show car but a great driver. Spots on the fenders and the patch
