Vehicle Detail
This is a US version 1976 Saab 99 ems (VIN: 99762009836). This is probably one of the cleanest, most rust free, original and low mile 99 ems’s out there. My wife bought this for me for one of my ‘signature birthdays’ and it had about 62,000 miles on it. It now has 62,929 miles on it. The car was running fine when we bought it almost 6 years back, however, it needed some brake work and the AC was not working. I was hoping to work on these, however, many things happened within our family (including having a new baby) that I did not have any time to attend to the car. So the car has been sitting in my garage for the last 4 years. Now the car definitely needs brake work, the engine cranked well, however, it had a hard time starting and did not run. I suspect the fuel system will need cleaning and attending to. I am very hesitantly selling this car as I really do not have the time to ‘restore’ it and we certainly need the garage space now. Let me describe the car a bit. My wife and I bought the car from California (we live in Texas). I believe the previous owner (an older gentleman) was the original owner and did not use the car much over the years and had kept it in his garage for the most part. Safe to say that the car has been garage kept for the past many years. This car is as original as it came out of the showroom. The interior is as nice as can be. No rips, no stains, not really even any wear on the driver seat and the driver side carpet. It has the ems special seats and the gauges and the badging. I will include images to show these. All the little lights work, all the handles are there, the dash and gauges are clean as can be. The interior is super clean and really has no flaws. The wood look is great, the door panels great etc. The headliner is in nice shape. The dash does not have any cracks, however, on the passenger side by the window the vinyl has shrunk and will need restoration (I will include an image). It is a AC equipped car, however, it was not operable when I bought it and it will need work (all the components appear to be there on the car including compressor and controls etc.). The body is very solid and rustfree, straight and clean and shows no signs of any kind of previous body work. The only bit of rust I see is on the exhaust system (surface oxidizing) and the rear muffler (a small amount of rust). The paint is original and is dull (as one would accept from a 40 year old car). The color is Silver, which was the only color the ems came in 1976. The car has the original black ems side stripe and all the original ems logos and special front grille and air dam. The left rear quarter panel appears to have been re-painted and the paint there is weak, has rubbed off on a small area (image included). The wheel rims are the original ems ‘soccer ball’ type rims (included are the rim center inserts). The bumpers are straight and clean, the light lenses are clean etc. Everything is original in this car. The engine was running fine when I last used the car, had great compression etc. I replaced the fuel pump and injector pump 4 years ago. It does not run now. My assumption is that the car mechanicals will need a complete look over before it can be used. I am selling this car as ‘needing work’ and ‘as-is’. The clutch, hydraulics and all worked well when I used the car last, however, I can’t guarantee with it sitting for 4 years. The Saab cars were way ahead of other cars back in the 1970’s and the ems model was their top model. Cheap to run, easy to maintain, a blast to drive, and built like a brick with top safety features for the period. It took my wife and I many years to find this car and now I am quite sad to sell it, however, have to as I do not have the time and we need the garage space. I am hoping another Saab enthusiast will find this a very worthy project. You will not be disappointed at the original condition of this car. The car comes with a California title (as I did not change the title when I bought it and never got around to it). It has a clear title and I will provide the manuals and all that came with the car. Once again, I am selling this car as ‘needing work’ and in a ‘as-is’ condition. This is a project car. Feel free to ask as many questions as you have. Buyer will have to pay for the transport. It will need to be towed as the car can’t be driven. I can help arrange reasonable shipping about anywhere. I am not familiar with overseas shipping, so please enquire first. Full payment must be received within 7 days of auction end. I am a long time ebayer and have a very good score. I am setting a very reasonable reserve on the car and please bid only if you are truly interested. Please do not bid if are not able to pay in 7 days. Thanks for looking (and reading) and let me know if you have any questions at all.On Feb-12-12 at 17:43:59 PST, seller added the following information: Several have asked if the car has a radio. It does not, and neither does it have the plasting housing underneath the middle area to hold the radio. I never got this with the car. Also, the rear antenna is missing (though the wiring is there). Apologize I did not include this detail in the original description.
