C'mon, Get Happy! 1973 VW WESTFALIA CAMPMOBILE O ffered For Sale is a lovely Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile Bus. It's in great condition - both cosmetically and mechanically. The bus has always been taken care of and considered a loving member of the family. This campmobile features a stainless steel sink, ice-box, folding bed, cabinets, dining table, new canvas pop-top tent, plus a list of other cool features! It's clean inside/out - you'll be impressed. The bus is a blast to own, drive, and explore nature with. Engine is smooth and has ample power...better than you'd think! Transmission is excellent, and all the gears operate flawlessly. This Westy is a real crowd-pleaser and it will make you and everyone else in its presence smile. It's ready to go; all it needs is a loving owner who appreciates these well-engineered and cleverly designed VWs...they're the original SUV! Over the decades, many VW Buses have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or were just plain driven into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After nearly 40 years, this classic still rides proudly in the essential Volkswagen tradition of being simple, precise, and economical. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Dash is simple, yet functional, just like every vintage VW. All gauges and lights work; so do the signals and horn! Heater vent hoses need to be reconnected. CD plus DVD player are a bonus and make traveling easier and more enjoyable. The interior is amazingly clean and still looks "crisp." Upholstery is in fantastic condition, and has recently been redone - all cushions - from front to rear. Rubber mats look good, too. Door locks all work, however the passenger front door and slider do not operate with an outside key. They can be locked/unlocked from the inside only. Locks on the driver door, rear hatch, and engine deck lid operate with the same key. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Living room of the Westy is very clean. There's plenty of room for passengers and cargo, whether you're going away for just a day at the beach or for a long camping excursion. ............ This is a nice added accessory that will enhance the fun of the trip for your friends and family. Rear seat transforms in a matter of seconds to a folding bed....and a room with a view! ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ All the comforts of home: dining table, sink, ice box, and plenty of storage space. All we need is a bottle of wine and some candles. Cushions are clean, supportive, and look great. Curtains have been replaced recently. It's quite a cozy setting, indeed. Both folding tables are intact. ** Ice-box is complete and "sanitary." Even the tray, which usually is long gone, is still present here. ** Stainless steel sink definitely comes in handy, and the stock pump is manually operated. ............ Coat closet with mirror and hooks was innovative back in the early '70s. This Westy still contains the rare folding hammock accessory. All dressed up and everywhere to go. Pop-top opens easily, offering walk-around versatility and fresh air when out camping. Canvas material and screens for tent have been replaced and are new. ............ Read a book or take a nap "upstairs" on the way cool folding canvas cot. ............ If you're cold or just want some privacy, the canvas shades can be zipped up to accommodate your mood. ............ Panels show a nice reflection, and the body is quite straight, taking age and use into consideration. Since it's a "driver," there are some small flaws here and there, but nothing to worry about. Paint was done a few years back, and this bus has been garage kept, so the finish is still preserved and it looks great! Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ ............ Even under the rubber mat, floors are in great condition. Quite often, these areas are rotted through, but not on this one. Nothing to hide here. All around, this bus is in great shape. This bus is one of the nicest I've owned. It's very reliable and the motor is excellent. Previous owner informed me the engine had been rebuilt and slightly "hopped up" for more power. I recently took it on a four hour trip up north, and it ran flawlessly. At idle, it purrs like a kitten; steady and low. This will be demonstrated in a short YouTube video below. Motor starts easily, even when cold. The dual carbs are adjusted properly. There's no stalling or bogging down. It has very good power and is a pleasure to drive. Gearbox and clutch are fine. Front end is tight. Brakes are firm. Mounted to the motor, is an external oil cooler which helps keep the temperature down and will prevent the motor from over-heating. ............ Typical of VW's clever engineering designs, this second removable panel allows engine access from above to make carburetor adjustments or replace fuel lines that are too difficult to reach from the rear opening.
