Vehicle Detail

Offered for sale is very well maintained 1982 Mercedes Benz 300 D, with 176,000 miles. This is my daily driver. I am selling her, reluctantly, because I want to buy a 1987 Toyota 4 x 4 van. In the two plus years I have owned this Benz I have put a good deal of time and money into her. She is fun to drive, handles very well and has lots of get up and go. I had planned on converting her to bio-diesel, but my mechanic said "why spend $1500 to convert the car, when you could spend that money on a system that makes bio-diesel for any diesel car." I have never made bio-diesel, but I had planned on it. This car cost $35,000 new in 1982. If you are looking at this auction you likely know the nature of these cars. The engine and transmission are know to be good for 500,000 miles or more if well maintained. The body and interior are in very good condition for a thirty year old car. The body does have some minor rust issues and small nicks here and there. See photos for those. There has been some very small amounts of body work done prior to my ownership. Again see photos. The paint in general is in excellent condition. I do not know if it is original or just a very good repaint. The dash has no cracks. The seats are in good condition, no sagging that can occur. The main interior issues are a busted front passengers side door pocket. The piping around the door frames has had the fabric worn away and the rubber tubing underneath is exposed and dangles slightly. The pneumatic door locks worked when I bought the car, but no longer do. My mechanical said it is easy to fix, but he does not have the tool (small compressor) needed to traced the leak. He did a quick fix to get the car to stop running. Oddly the pneumatic system that controls the door locks also shuts the car off. The front passenger side seat belt sticks a bit when retracting. The original AM/FM radio has been replaced with a AM/FM CD player with aux input for i-pods and mp3 devices. The speakers have all been replaced in the last year. The sound system is very nice. The headliner is in good condition, no sags. Windows have been tinted, though not very dark. There is also a device on the passenger side near the radio that allows for charging multiple electronic devices. I believe it has 4 inputs, similar to charging by cigarette lighter, with toggle switches for each input (can been seen in the photo of the dash board). Mechanically this 300 Turbo Diesel is in very good condition. The first winter I owned it I did have trouble starting it in very cold weather. I thought it was just the nature of the beast. In November of 2010 my mechanic replaced all 5 of the igniters (glow plugs). Since that time the car starts in any weather. When I bought the car all four tires were new. I have put around 8 thousand miles on the car since I bought it. A couple weeks ago I had the front end aligned and bought 2 new front tires for it. The spare tire is a real tire and in good shape. Included in this sale are two new studded snow tires on Benz rims. The seven rims that come with this car are worth, based on eBay auction ads, between $75 to $100 each. The engine does drip a bit of oil. Having replaced the valve cover gasket and the oil pan gasket, the car leaks less than it did. There is still some seepage from fuel pump seal and the inlet hose at the turbo charging. My mechanic said he would fix it if I wanted, but it is time for me to sell. I add a quart of oil every third fill up (around 1000 miles). My mechanic says the engine burns little or no oil. Here is a list of some of the major work that I have had done since owning her: 5 new glow plugs (Fall 2010)Fan motor rebuild (Spring 2011)Valve cover gasket (Summer 2011)Oil pan gasket (Summer 2011)Outer tie rod end and other minor front end needs (Summer 2011) brakes all around (Summer 2011) 4 new speakers (Summer 2011)Rear Shocks (Fall 2011)Exhaust system from the manifold pipe back. (Fall 2011)Left side torque motor mount (Fall 2011)Front end alignment (Winter 2012)New Front tires (Winter 2012) If you are looking for a mint condition Mercedes 300 TD, this is not the car for you. Look for a southern or west coast Benz and spend two or three times my asking price. If on the other hand you are looking for a daily driver that gets around 25 mpg in city driving and a bit more on the highway, or you always wanted one of these as a toy, this might be the one for you. This car might also be a good candidate for restoration or Bio-diesel conversion. The vehicle has a clean title, in hand. Comes with an inexpensive but very functional car cover. According to the Car-fax report I obtained when I bought this car, it started out it's life in Florida, then moved to Kentucky, then spent a couple years in Erie, Pennsylvania.Since I have owned it, it has lived in Buffalo, NY. It has been driven in snowy (salty) Buffalo for just one winter. Not only is this a great driving car, but it really turns heads and always has folks coming up to check it out. As my daughters would say "seriously swagging." I would not hesitate driving this car anywhere. But that said, this is an "as is" sale, with no warranty offered or expressed. I am also selling this car locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. This is my first attempt at selling on E bay, though I have brought hundreds of items here, as well as three cars. I will do what ever I can to facilitate a good, clean and hassle free sale. I will also work with the auction winner if they wish to ship the vehicle. That said, all shipping, sales taxes (New York State) and any other fees and expenses related to shipping and licensing the vehicle are at the purchasers expense. A $500, non-refundable deposit it required with in 24 hours of purchase. I would prefer it done via Paypal, but e-mail me before the auction ends and we may work out some other arrangement. If deposit is not made with in 24 hours and no other arrangement is made, I reserve the right to sell this car to the next highest bidder or restart the bidding process. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THE CAR IF YOU DO NOT PLAN TO BUY IT. Bidding on this auction, as with all eBay auctions, constitutes a legally binding contract. I will proceed with what legal recourse is available if you fail to follow through on your bid. Any bidder with a purchase history of less than 10, needs to contact me before bidding or I will eliminate your bid. I am a reasonable person looking to sell a very nice car at a reasonable price to a reasonable buyer. I will work very hard to make this an easy sale. Please email any and all questions. Thanks for looking and Good Luck Bidding.
