Land Rover Series III Short Wheel Base (109), 6 cylinder This is one of my project cars. I need the room so am selling it as-is, where-is. I found the vehicle at a yard sale while driving through Pennsylvania. It needs a frame and a wiring harness to get moving again. Door hinges are not bolted, I pulled the doors and just ever put them completely back together, because it all has to come off to do the frame swap. The engine was operational when I bought the truck, but was a little smokey, the owner started it some gas poured in the carb. It has been sitting in my warehouse since I brought it home in 1998, it should be viable without a rebuild (you decide). The rear brakes are stuck (probably the parking brake) so it doesn't roll without some power behind it - I used my forklift to place it in my warehouse. I have all 6 wheels (with tires), and the hood and rear door spare tire mounts are in place and complete. The interior has all the parts, including the rear fold-up seats, the dash/interior is complete, but it needs some major restoration attention from someone who can put it all back in place and refinish the parts. The truck is equipped with the optional overdrive and correct axles (see Series III history below). All the glass is good, and all the aluminum body panels, and roof, are solid and straight. This might also be the perfect take-off body for your prepared chassis, or a great parts source for a Land Rover restoration. There is no title, but I will be pleased to provide a sales receipt and affidavit if a title will be acquired by the buyer. Here's a brief history of the Series III/IIA By the late 1960s, it was clear that changes to the Series IIA were required if Land Rover was going to keep its edge. Hence in 1971, the Series IIA was replaced by the Series III. Cash was limited and market research showed that customers were not looking for radical changes. Hence the Series III was an evolution of the Series IIA design, rather a complete revamp. The most significant change was the replacement of the gearbox with a completely new gearbox that incorporated synchromesh on all forward gears. The ratios were also revised, with lower Reverse and 1st gears. The Low Range ratio was also reduced. Clutch design was also modified to include a diaphragm spring, resulting in smoother and quieter gear changes. Brakes were also improved, and a heavy duty Salisbury rear axle was fitted as standard to all 6 cylinder vehicles. From 1972, the Salisbury became a standard fitment on all 109" vehicles. The electrical system was also upgraded with the dynamo replaced by an alternator. The body remained virtually unchanged, although the metal grille was replaced with a plastic grille designed to match the new headlamp position introduced in 1968. Although there were few external changes, the Series III looked very different on the inside. The dash was redesigned with the addition of padding. The instrument panel was moved to be in front of the driver. The door interiors were upholstered, and a much-improved heater was fitted. There were even provisions for a radio!
