Vehicle Detail
Okay... this is really one of those deals you hear about once in a while... This is a bittersweet moment, friends - but I'm parting with my beloved (yet long-overlooked) 1974 VW Thing. I've owned this baby since about 1984, and have had many pleasurable hours in her. There's a fair bit of TLC due, but it'll really pay off for the right person. HERE'S THE THING: this car has been sitting in dry, indoor storage from 1994 until just about a year ago when my son and I brought it back home to get it back on the road. Literally - it hasn't been driven more than about 4-5 times ... and at that only around the block ... in the last 17 years. Seriously. (I know, I know... to you fellow VW lovers out there, that sounds like a crime - but it'd be even more a crime if I keep never getting around to it...right?) It has a 1776 DP with .041-triple-cut valves, forged crank, lightened flywheel and two-barrel holley, all straight from BAP - back in 1988. From then on it was an occasional driver - to the river, the beach, the foothills - until family and life got in the way and it went into storage. It still has the original windows - in the original window pouch; original jack, original remote-access-spare-air line, original chrome half-moon hubcaps and more. Original paint, too - although it's *clearly* the original (i.e. faded) paint. No top - sorry to say (that's a long story). At little surface rust, here and there, (typical rust-through under the battery) and the bumper and fenders were a bit pranged up way back when. The odometer reads 16,995... and I *know* that's not 116,995... so either it stopped working back when, or it's accurate (in which case I'm *really* kicking myself...) At any rate, it's on its original legs, and definitely doesn't show any way near signs of rolling a hundred-thousand-plus miles, that's for sure. The interior is... serviceable, with heavy white vinyl seatcovers over the original seats, and some hand-recovered back cushions. It'll start - and drive - although, clearly, that carb would love a good cleaning, and I'd do a little TLC on the brakes before I got in heavy stop-and-go traffic. But, all in all, it's an interesting little gem, and pretty young for its age. It's ready to roll - clear AZ title in hand. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY. This is sold as is and there are no refunds. I also have this for sale locally and reserve the right to end this auction at any time. I will not disclose my reserve, please don't ask. Notice my 100% perfect feedback and know with confidence that you will be happy with your purchase. Shipping, if required, is the responsibility of the person who buys the car. Only cash or cashiers checks accepted - and if cashier's check, I have to cash the check first. No personal checks, money orders, promissory notes or IOU's.... I will release the car ONLY after I am satisfied the funds are good. Sorry for all the rules... just been burned a few times too many. I'm ONLY selling to the USA at this time. Thank you. On Dec-31-11 at 10:09:26 PST, seller added the following information: A couple of updates: I only had my two local-classifieds pics available last night when I launched this auction... I've added a bunch more, showing interior, exterior undercarriage, beam, windows, trunk, etc... Also, I forgot to mention (forgot i *had*) that I have the original olive-drab, windshield wrap for when you're driving windshield-down for that wind-in-your-face experience...
