Vehicle Detail
1987 Peugeot 505 Liberte Version I originally purchased this vehicle to install a Peugeot diesel engine into, but in reality, it runs too good to perform that modification. I will eventually find an older diesel for which the swap will be more practical. Peugeot stopped sending diesel automobiles to North America in either 1985 or 1986, I have forgotten which. I had a 1985 505 wagon which was a very good vehicle. I prefer diesels to gasoline operated vehicles and, at present, only Mercedes and VW offer such in North America. I presently acquired another project and just can't have everything. Hence, take advantage of my present state to own one of the cleanest Peugeots you are likely to see. I am not sure what the Liberte Version stands for, but it is a take-off of the 505 Peugeots of which I have owned two diesel versions. It is obvious that it has been well maintained. It is truly a Classic and destined to become more so. The only thing lacking is the paint which is a tad faded. I painted the hood and top last year with a good grade of spray can paint. I find absolutely no rust. The pictures depict the cosmetic condition fairly well. Note the dual glove compartments and the separate compartments for the rear window washer bottle and the jack storage. The radio is original Peugeot and is in operating condition. Though I don't think I have even tried the casette player. Over the past couple of years this little Peugeot has had goads of replacement parts installed and a list of such will be supplied to the buyer, along with the original owner's manual and window sticker showing a MSRP of over $17,000. Seldom do you get a vehicle with full documentation such as this. And seldom do you run across one this clean. The odometer shows a little over 157,000 miles and I have no reason to believe it is not original. However, the trip odometer recently quit. The main still works well. Oil consumption is nil. Though it starts and runs well, There is an idle problem that I think is caused by the use of alcohol subsidized fuel. I got it because the previous owner's mechanic passed away Consequently, I suggest only Peugeot lovers and mechanics bid. The idle problem is recent. It has the CIS fuel injection system and I suspect the O-rings have gone soft. However, that is no guarantee. It starts better when cold which indicates an overloading of fuel. Peugeots have one of the best oriented heating systems available and this one even has heated seats for you cold natured people. Wow! The rear seat folds down to give plenty of flat space for hauling. The seats are exceptionally comfortable with Peugeot Velour covering. A chiropractor once told me that if you have back problems buy a Peugeot. And I must mention a bit of history. Peugeot has been building cars with the same name for longer than anyone. Don't believe me? Look it up. In Africa instead of calling a taxi you call a Peugeot. You see them everywhere but in America. I have owned six of them, including this one, and there have been few disappointments. They are well under rated. Ask what questions you will as I have only touched on the main features. And, as always, there is no warranty expressed nor implied. If it breaks two days after you get it home, or on the way home, it is yours and not mine. Though I have no reason to believe you could not drive it to the far corners of the earth if you can find a way. It is smooth as only Peugeots are. I also have a 2.2 litre diesel engine which I will consider selling with the vehicle for $350 which is what I paid for it. At this moment I will not consider selling it separately. Who knows, I might run across a good 504 that needs an engine. I have never sold a Peugeot without later regretting it, and this one will probably be no different. Go to the SalvageHunter website for a more descriptive flavor and more pictures. These pictures were actually taken shortly after I bought it, but not much has changed. I have acquired two more wheels and installed a new starter, and that's about it. It has required very little maintenance. But please understand that it is a high mileage vehicle. I am putting a fair reserve on it, but please do not ask what it is because I might change it at any time depending upon whim. I really do not want to sell it, but the yard is full. If I sell something else first it will be removed from the auction. Take the mileage with a grain of salt as it is still being driven. Thanks, and NO I will not accept your money order awaiting pickup by your valet, or whomever, returning what is left over to you. It ain't gonna happen. Bid only if you seriously want to own a Peugeot, not scam me. And as Old Roy would say: Happy Trails to You.On Dec-16-11 at 05:56:48 PST, seller added the following information: For a more complete description of this vehicle please go to SalvageHunter.com .... Thanks. On Dec-17-11 at 06:23:38 PST, seller added the following information: In response to some requests: There are several items not mentioned as faults which are outlined at the SH website. To wit: Fuel gauge is erratic, RF turn signal needs contacts cleaned (previous problem), No cruise control, no central door lock system, Tires are good, but well worn. This is a good, high mileage vehicle and should be bid on as such. It is the perfect size wagon, but no third row seat.... Thanks.
