Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Second Description Up-Date 3 December 7. The iPod plug mentioned above is not an "iPod plug" per se. It is a 1/8" stereo mini audio input jack, in the interior of the glove box. It was in the car when we purchased it, and we believe (but can’t guarantee) that it’s either an original factory add-on, or a BMW-supplied dealer-installed retro-fit. An iPod (or any other audio device) can be connected to this jack (e.g., from an iPod's headphone output jack). To use a device connected this way with the in-dash stereo system, you’d select the AUX input on the stereo. Note, however: unlike a dedicated iPod jack with an Apple connector, this glove-box jack does not provide power to the iPod, and aside from volume, the in-dash system doesn’t control (e,g., play/plause or song-select) the iPod or other device. These functions are done by hand on the iPod/device itself. Aftermarket accessories are widely sold, which plug into the cigarette lighter, and hold up an iPod above the gear shifter, making it easier to reach while driving, and providing power to it. The iPod would then be connected by a simple 18" inch audio cable into the glove box. 8.
