Vehicle Detail
1990 GMC Sierra K1500 Truck4.3L V64x4 with Z71 Off Road PackageTwo tone blue over silver with arch extensions.Regular cab with long bed.***Currently does not drive but should be an easy fix for someone with the time, enthusiasm and money, 3 things I no longer have*** First a little history. I bought this truck on ebay nearly 3 years ago now and was told there was a noise from the rear when driving. On the drive home the universal joint on the rear driveshaft snapped causing the driveshaft to separate from the rear diff and crack the transmission housing. I had the truck trailered home and it's sat on the drive ever since. I have already changed the transmission (700R4) for a low mileage unit from a local parts dealer complete with torque convertor. After bolting the old transfer case (NP241C) back on I fired it up and tried all gears and everything seemed to shift as it should but when I went to bolt the rear driveshaft back on with it's new universal joint thats when I found out that the output shaft on the transfer case was bent and the driveshaft wouldn't line up with the rear diff. I took the transfer case back off and started to strip it down planning to just change the main output shaft but that's about as far as I got. Too complicated for me, ever seen inside a transfer case? damn!.As far as I'm aware all the truck needs to make it a driver again would be another transfer case bolting up underneath, both the driveshafts bolting back in and either a new battery or a good charge, BUT I didn't get to drive the truck long before it let go and stranded me on the side of the road so it may need more work, I really don't know. I do remember the engine ran smooth and didn't knock or smoke. The exhaust did blow a little underneath but not bad. The brakes felt good and the steering was light and worked well but again this was nearly 3 years ago now and the truck has sat ever since so the brakes may need work to free them off and I'm sure it'll need a full fluid change and service by now.Okay, what I do know about the truck...It's a 1990 in surprisingly good condition for it's age, especially considering I was told it was used as a snow plow for the first few years of it's life. The mileage reads 205401 which for a 21 year old truck is actually below average BUT I was told by the previous owner that the engine was rebuilt 60k miles ago and by the way it ran when I picked it up I have no reason to doubt him. The title shows EXEMPT for mileage/odometer. The heater and blower did work when I picked the truck up and have no reason to think they shouldn't now.The engine is a 4.3L V6, the transmission is a 700R4 auto and when a new transfer case is bolted up and the driveshafts reinstalled it's be a 4x4 again. The truck has the Z71 off road package (front skid plate, upgraded suspension and under body protection) and also has a Reese tow package but I don't know the condition of the wiring having never tried or checked it.The wheels are 15" American Racing alloy rims in nice-ish condition with some pitting and flaking but they do still look good. The tires are Courser Radial LT's 31 x 10.5r x 15. They do have between 1/8th and a 1/4" tread left and hold air BUT they have been sitting for 3 years and do have some sidewall cracking now so plan on needing to change them in the near future. The interior is functional and tidy but it could use a good clean. The bench seat has some wear and stains and a tear on the drivers side, nothing a nice seat cover wouldn't fix though. The dash has no cracks but there are a couple of small holes where something was mounted before and the fuse box cover is missing, Also I remember the gear indicator on the instrument cluster did not move when the column shift lever was moved. There is no stereo and the headliner has been previously removed. The cab has a sliding rear window but the catch to lock it from the inside is broken. Also the doors will not lock from the outside with the key so I'm guessing one of the rods or clips inside the door is missing or broken. Oh and the parking bake does not work, the cable to the rear brakes is broken but on an auto who needs a parking brake anyway. The body is generally very solid with just the bottom of the divers side fender, bottom of the drivers door and the drivers side rocker panel showing major rust. The passenger side is all very solid with just surface rust up under the sill/rocker area, a strip of rust towards the bottom of the door and one small rear bubbling up just above the door handle. The hood and front end is in great condition. The truck bed is solid and rust free but it does have some scrapes and scratches inside and out and the tailgate is nice and straight but the handle and catches keep sticking making it hard to open. The cab roof is faded badly but it has no rust or dents. The windshield has a couple of stone chips but no cracks. The exterior mirror housings are rusted through but I do have one new one that will go with the truck along with 2 new rear tail lights and a Haynes workshop manual.***Again, currently the truck does not drive and will need to be towed or trailered home***The main part needed to make it a driver again is a new transfer case. I do have the old one, still currently semi stripped down if you feel like changing the main output shaft and rebuilding it yourself or just pick up another complete unit. The old unit is marked... New Process 241CAssy No. 1560 4178Serial No. 922 892Ratio 272And I know it is a 27 spline female input and a 32 spline male output. I did try a couple of local breakers yards for a replacement transfer case and was quoted $250 and $300 so I know they are out there and not overly expensive but for me I've looked at the truck sat on the drive for too long to want to mess with it any more.I know the truck has alot of potential and would make a good daily driver or solid work truck for someone who has the time and enthusiasm to spend a few hours crawling underneath and the rest of the weekend giving it a good going over so my lack of enthusiasm could be your gain. Please be aware you are bidding to buy the truck and not just come and look at it, It costs money to buy and sell a vehicle on ebay so I don't want to end up further out of pocket on this truck because of bidders who don't plan on completing their bid and purchase. There is no buy-it-now option and I have no asking price in mind or reserve set so bid away. Payment is required by Cash at time of collection, sorry but no checks or money orders. A $500 deposit by PayPal is required within 72 hours of the auction finishing. I have a clean clear Indiana title in my name sat here and will be signed over to the new owner at time of collection. If you want to come and see the truck before you bid you are very welcome to, I'm located in Anderson, IN, behind Mounds Mall. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will try to answer them as best as I can.I've taken lots of photo's to try and show the truck's good and bad points but if you want more photo's of a certain area just ask.
