Vehicle Detail
Blue-Chip Investment 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL "Pagoda" O ffered For Sale is a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL. The car is a rolling work of art and a highly collectible piece of Mercedes history. These are built rock-solid and definitely personify German engineering and precision. This particular example was owned by the same family till I took ownership of it five years ago. This "Pagoda" runs as good as it looks. The exterior is fabulous. Chrome and other appointments are excellent. Mechanically, the SL has been gone through with an overhauled motor, transmission, fuel-injection unit, exhaust system, and regular maintenance to keep it running like a German top. This highly sought after model is a world-class automobile and is ready for the next owner to enjoy. Experience what a real Mercedes used to be. Even M-B doesn't build 'em like this anymore! This Mercedes was owned for 30 years by the original owner, a rich uncle, who then gave the car to his nephew, who owned it for about seven years. I took possession in 2005, and have had the SL housed in my garage, taking it out for sunny days and special occasions. Classic facia displays old-world craftsmanship and a elegance that only Mercedes-Benz could produce. Dash is in excellent condition. All gauges are functioning properly. Electrics are in fine operating condition. Even the heater works! Signal indicator doesn’t always "hold" in the clicked position and it also needs to be manually cancelled. Blinkers, however, do operate just fine. Factory paint and chrome are in clean, crisp condition. ............ The interior is in fine condition. The driver seat was reupholstered not too long ago. Passenger seat is the original material. The seat belt latch on the driver side doesn’t engage; passenger side receiving latch is missing. Carpeting is original, and on the passenger side under the mat, there is a spot that shows wear. Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ Since the previous owner of this Mercedes was the proprietor a high-end stereo store, he had a $3000 Alpine audio unit installed. It is equipped with amplifiers galore, a head unit, cassette, and CD player. The CD part, however, recently stopped working. .......... .......... Click on the Images for Larger Picture Soft top looks relatively new. Canvas is thick, and plastic window is clear. In the entire time I’ve owned the car, I had never put it up (I enjoy the convertible part too much). The color combination of grey with black does look stunning. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ A common area for rust, is the inside well where the soft-top is folded. Water can leaks in, doesn’t evaporate, and causes corrosion. However, ss you can see here, it’s dry as a bone and in excellent shape. ............ This 280SL led a charmed life and has always been garaged. Dove Grey paint is the original color. The decklids such as hood, trunk, and hardtop are the original M-B factory finish. It shows a little age and patina from being over forty years old, but still has held up very well. Where the hardtop rests on the rear sill behind the seats, there are a couple dents on both sides where impressions were made. The sides were repainted as a freshening up measure and to preserve the car’s good looks. The work was recently done to a very high standard and looks fabulous. It’s very straight and shiny. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ The desired "notches" are present on both front fenders, indicating the M-B factory finish is intact, and that the car had never been involved in a front-end collision. .......... .......... Click on the Image for Larger Picture ............ Underneath, the floor is solid and as good as you could hope for. ............ The major mechanical components have been gone through. Much of it at a hefty expense. I have receipts totaling nearly $12,000 alone. This includes an overhauled engine, new transmission, fuel-injection unit, shocks, brakes, and a complete exhaust system. Motor and drive train are top notch. The car runs as good as it looks. Oil pressure is high; running temperature is always cool. The car is ready to be driven and enjoyed! ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ Click above to see detailed receipts totaling nearly $12K! Take a Test Drive! Click on Video Clip Above The fine example offered here presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles. This tangible investment is safer than the stock market and is something that can be enjoyed, now and in the future. Why not mix business with pleasure?
