Vehicle Detail
Up for sale here is a 1971 pontiac gto,it is NOT a cloned car,it is a true gto with a 42 vin. Im selling it to make room in my garage for a grand national whenever I find one to buy that suits me. If it werent for that I would definately keep this car and finish it. The 71/72 bodystyle were the last true gtos and could be identified by the vin. This was one of the last true muscle cars and in my opinion the last gto.The grand am looking thing of present day shouldve stayed in austrailia. The 84 mustang svo in the pictures will also be listed for sale on ebay at some point if someone is interested in that.Just need to change the scenery and make some room. I took this on a trade months ago and since then it has done nothing but sit in my garage,I literally rolled it off the trailer and into my garage where it has sat ever since. While I dont know alot about it Ill be happy to share with you everything I do know. Mechanical, the 300 horsepower 400 ci engine has had a recent rebuild according to the previous owner,it runs very, very good,it has a small street cam but nothing that sounds too radical. The engine bay is clean and the car has ac with all the componets still in place, the compressor is free as well,it looks to be retrofitted to 134a.The front aprons are good and straight also. The prior owner said he drained all the fluids when he put it in storage.I did put a little atf fluid in just to see if it would pull, the transmission pulled and the speedometer worked as I had it on jackstands to check it.I also put in some power steering fluid and the power steering started working as well but it does leak out over time. The car has brakes as well so I dont think it would take alot to have it roadworthy.I have not attempted to drive it the car and I would tow it home until you had a weekend to go through it.The lights interior(dash) and exterior work too so hopefully no electrical gremlins.I tried the power windows but none worked, most likely I would guess it was a fuse. Interior, the previous owner has all the seats(front buckets and rear bench) recovered in the factory tan color and they look great,it needs a headliner(bows are there) carpet obviously, dash cap cover and while the front door panels are there they are a poor driver quality at best. The rears are in better shape. The car has most or all of the interior parts and they have been boxed up and labeled in the trunk. The car also comes with the factory console. I didnt take apart the interior so I cannot vouch for what is there and what isnt but it APPEARS to be all there. Body/metalwork. The car seems to be solid with a good solid frame but it does need some work on the body. It will need a driver side floor pan and a passenger side rear pan.The trunk will need a patch, the body doesnt seem to have very much rust that I can see and I think I have taken pictures of affected areas. The quarters appear to be good but it looks to have a redneck lower patch done on the passenger side lower quarter behind the wheel. And yes the hood shuts just fine,I just had it popped taking pictures. .You will probably need to bolt in another core support as this one is rusted some underneath the battery, these are cheap to buy online. The door has a couple of small spots, and the panel below the back glass has some small spots. The only thing body wise I really can tell is missing is the front valance which is gto specific. They are around 250.00 online, you may be able to find it cheaper. I havent taken the lower trim off to check for any rust as Im afraid I might break the clips that hold it on,thats normally my luck. The body needs a good sanding and of course 40 years worth of dings fixed.I would take it down to the metal and do it right, after all it is a gto. I will not even try to point out all of the body imperfections,it does have small dings and small dents from being a 40 year old car, nothing a novice couldnt fix himself. It looks like it had some side trim at some point and someone took it off, there are trim holes in the front fender that needs filled. The rear bumper is a great core to rechrome, the endura front bumper is in good condition and only needs some minor repair. The car also has the original pmd wheels, tires hold air and tread is pretty good, drivers rear tire goes down after several days. The frame on this car is good and solid as mentioned before, you can tell that by the pics underneath.Definately not a northern rust belt car. Terms/payment and pickup. 500.00 non refundable deposit 24 hours after auctions close.must be paid for in 5 days from date of sale.cash in person or cashiers check with verifiable funds only(meaning I must be able to call your bank and verify). I may list the car for sale locally and other sites online so it can be subject to local sale,if that is the case I may add a buy it now option. Car must be picked up in 7 days unless you work out something with me PRIOR to auctions end.If you need more time I am willing to try and work with you within reason as long as the car is paid for but it will lose its spot in my garage. Please bear in mind this is a auction and what you bid for it is what you pay, please dont show up and try to negotiate the price down because it wasnt what you thought it was. If you are unsure of some things on the car ask me before you bid, If I dont know the answer I will try to find out for you. I will ship the car as well as long as you make arrangments and pay for said shipping. I wont however ship the car to nigeria and send you back excess funds from your bogus check. Keep in mind this is a 40 year old car and not something Ive owned my entire life so its probably a given that I will overlook things unintentionally as I am not a restoration expert. Please email me or simply give me a call and I will answer all questions to the best of my knowledge.615 238 4855 no calls after midnight central time please. All in all a great car to fix up! I do have a clear title on the gto and the trim tag is intact,it decodes as a castillian bronze car with tan interior and a tan vinyl top. I was told but the previous owner that this is a matching numbers car although I have not checked for myself as of yet .Happy bidding and good luck!!!On Oct-28-11 at 08:17:56 PDT, seller added the following information: The engine code on the block confirms it is a 71 model(ys)300 horsepower 400 that came in a gto, the number stamped on the passenger side of the block is 21p116698.the latter part matches the vin. This would confirm it is a matching numbers engine. On Oct-28-11 at 11:32:36 PDT, seller added the following information: Here is the trim tag info some of you have been requesting.tr 263 67f paint. Also as I had stated earlier from what my research online has said it is the correct 400 engine that belongs in the car. Intially I thought it was a y9 when I answered a watchers question but it is a ys code on the front of the block. Also while I was under the car I noticed some parts were labeled with masking tape indicating their location and what they were, this lends credence to the prior owner telling me it has totally been rebuilt. The engine does run very, very good. Also if the car doesnt meet reserve I would be interested in a PARTIAL trd(ebay doesnt like it when you spell it out) for a 90 model and up 300zx, absolutely nothing below a 90 model. I will need cash on your end. Condition not too important but must run and drive. I have no interest in them at all but my significant other does and Im looking for one to fix up for her. The gto must be picked up at my residence. thanks!!On Oct-29-11 at 20:24:23 PDT, seller added the following information: Ive just removed the reserve, happy bidding, let it sell!!On Oct-30-11 at 21:20:37 PDT, seller added the following information: I will NOT have access to a computer after 1 pm central time monday so I will be unable to answer any questions via email.Any questions sent after this time will not be answered via email . I will be at work, direct any questions to my cell phone, you can call or text. 615 238 4855 thank you to everyone for your interest in my gto!! Its also worth mentioning that the car has a new radiator and an accel distributor.
