Vehicle Detail
Beautiful Benz! I drive it once a week for about a half hour (highway and local) including warming it up. Highway ride is divine! Air suspension works well but has slow leak so during warm up it pumps itself up and retains air for a couple days. I restored most of the interior and exterior in 1998-1999. I bought the car from a dealer who had purchased it from an elderly woman in Port Jefferson, L.I., NY who kept it garaged for about 15 years and put about about 89,000 miles on it. I have put on about 20,000 miles (odometer stopped working about 2 years ago). There was superficial rust when I bought it. The undercarriage is in sound condition with very little rust. Since I had the exterior professionally restored in 1999 (completely stripped to steel body and door panels refilled to give the body the pronounced look it should have) it has very little rust today. At that time all chrome was taken off body and re-chromed. If one wanted the car in show condition again then there would be no need to strip to the metal though most of the chrome would have to be dipped again. Interior restoration included all original ceiling vinyl, seat horsehair and leather, leather side panels, floor padding and carpeting. all leather and ceiling vinyl are in very good condition. For the collector this car would probably be best as a parts car but I am no one to judge. If you have a passion for this car and have time to make it a project as I did in 1998 then you could own an eye catcher! You would have work to do on the car. Although she runs well and 99% of original parts are with car including the Benz star for the hood (I kept it off ) here is a list of things that need to be done: Some light reflector replacement, interior dash board needs work; need to replace the air vent control system. Missing a hub cap. Front grill needs to be either replaced or straightened. Clear coat finish (not paint) has tarnished on hood and trunk and needs refinishing. Exhaust system needs some repair. Tires in good condition. Burl walnut dash is in need of professional repair. The cosmetic wood and vinyl dash are currently stored. The automatic drive train is excellent; no slippage; very tight. The motor is fuel injection V-8 and runs well. If you are looking to restore to show then it would need to be completely overhauled but if you are wanting to drive it then a fuel injector hose replacement and normal tune-up is really all that is necessary. Personally I loved the look and feel of this car and will miss having it but realize there are people who have a passion to keep these increasingly rare cars in existence. Thanks! On Oct-27-11 at 17:46:05 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to show front interior panels! I took them off because the panel clips were loose and I was going to replace them. All leather is in great condition. At least a $3000 value!
