RELISTED DUE TO NON PAYING BIDDER! 1978 Lincoln Mark V Diamond Jubilee. 1 of 5159 produced! Miles are unknown odometer does not work. Car runs and drives and was just driven on a 141 mile trip. Tires are in good shape. Tool kit is there but it is not complete, I do not have the owner's manual, or the umbrella. Car is also listed locally so auction can end at anytime. More pictures can be seen at flickr.com/photos/autobrokers. Questions are welcome. These cars are not for sale very often and will only become harder to find. If you have zero feedback please contact me before bidding. Here is some history about the Diamond Jubileee Edition that I found online just by doing a quick search... Ford Motor Company celebrated its 75th year in the automobile business in 1978. To commemorate this milepost in automotive history, Ford produced two very special automobiles as limited editions. The 1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition was one of those automobiles. The Mark V version truly was limited with production of just 5,159 cars. To set it apart from the ordinary Marks, the Diamond Jubilee was available in just two colors: Diamond Blue and Jubilee Gold. Whichever color you chose, it would be repeated throughout the car. In addition to the special Clearcoat paint, the padded Landau (shades of T-Bird!) vinyl roof featured color-keyed moldings and integral Coach Lamps. The vinyl-insert bodyside moldings, vertical bars on the grille, bumper guards and rub strips, turbine-style cast aluminum wheels, grille ornament, and padded vinyl deck lid kickup with matching vinyl-insert lock cover were all coordinated. Inside, the interiors of the Diamond Jubilee Edition Mark V's were the most luxurious ever installed to date by Lincoln in a production car. Also matching the exterior color scheme, the interior featured front bucket seats with a padded center console. The console provided extra storage, and came equipped with an umbrella built into the underside of the padded armrest. The seats were upholstered in luxury cloth with a unique sew style, and had broadlace inserts as distinctive reminders that this was NOT your ordinary Mark V! Other distinctions included padded leather in high wear areas of the interior, as well as ebony wood inserts on the instrument panel, door trim panels, front seat backs, and console. The backs of the front seats also featured assist straps and map pockets. The carpeting on the floor was a sumptuous 36 oz. Tiffany cut-pile. All Diamond Jubilee Marks were supplied with a leather bound owner's manual and tool kit. If this weren't enough, special touches appeared everywhere one looked. Instrument panel lenses were beveled, with the look of cut glass. The outside edges of the opera windows were also beveled, and featured Diamond Jubilee Script and a simulated diamond chip laminated between the glass. Even the keys had a woodtone insert. After delivery, the customer could choose to have his or her initials monogrammed on the doors, interrupting the bodyside stripes. Most Mark V optional features were standard on this car, including the new digital "Miles-To-Empty" fuel gauge that calculated approximately how far the car could be driven with the remaining fuel in the tank, based on fuel level, driving speed, and fuel consumption rate. An on-board solid-state computer performed the math. Also included as standard equipment: Defroster Group, Garage Door Opener, Headlamp Convenience Group, Interior Light Group, Interval-Select Windshield Wipers, Power Lock Convenience Group, Power Lumbar Seat, Power Vent Windows, Right-hand Remote Control Mirror, Speed Control, Tilt Steering Wheel, Appearance Protection Group, Illuminated Entry System, Rocker Panel Moldings, AM/FM Stereo with Quadrasonic 8-Track Tape, and Firestone 721 Steel Belted Radial Dual Wide Band White Sidewall Tires (size LR78-15). Regardless of what other cars may have been compared to the Diamond Jubilee Mark V, they just don't come more luxurious or better equipped. It truly was the most luxurious Continental ever produced. Of course, they are very rare and highly prized collectible cars today. Here is a post from lincolnsonline.com about the Diamond Jubilee....Take from it what you will. Yes, it is more than a shame, a national tragedy. As on April 2009, there were only 59 registered 1978 Mark V Diamond Jubilees in the annual Lincoln and Continental Owners Club Manuel, that lists the owners, address, country of residence, and VIN numbers of the cars. This does not mean of the approximately 5,100 75th Anniversary DJE's that ONLY 59 remain in the free world, (1/2 dozen outside the USA) the rest in the 50 states, but the subscribers and paying members of the LC Owner's Club as a group are aristocratic, and often compete in car shows, if not, all classify their cars as either excellent originals, or excellently "restored" originals. Total 1978 Mark V's produced were 72,602 units, they represented only 7% of the Mark V's on sold that year! The Lincoln brochure stated the "Diamond Jubilee was the most luxurious production automobile they had ever built" and its MSRP commanded a staggering $20,706.00. vs. the base Mark V @ $12,099, and the Designer Series, starting out @ $13,485.00. The biggest shame is that the big three Lincoln Salvage car parts warehouses that sell NOS and parted out cosmetic & mechanical parts (Classiquecars.com) (Bakersauto.com) (Lincolnland.com) & Lincoln Parts Int'l (Perris CA 800-382-1656) were not given the opportunity to get some very rare special items unique to the car, for other worldwide collectors, who have a bona fide need to restore, or replace the "collectors" series of these cars, as any special edition car of the world, due to the limited production of the auto, the car parts are in extreme high demand, as so little replacement stock, remained, after initial production!!!!! Most are rust buckets, have been crushed up, or are at the other extreme, pampered like a poodle, and hidden from the public eyes "in the here and now"90% of the remaining ones sell for $3,000 #4 to $15,000 #2, and maybe 1/2 dozen remain as not for sale usually, but as a family heirloom still untitled, brand new with less than 100 miles, on them, on occasion, a former LM dealer CEO dies, and, the cars show up, but asking prices are usually as high as $25,000.00 Firm. The rust buckets are not listed in the Black Book Cars of Particular Interest, but are usually only worth $500 to 1500 tops are may or may not be running. Figures from April 2010 Black Book CPI Guide. There is no reserve on this auction!
