Vehicle Detail
The First Series and the Most Collectible 1971 Datsun 240Z O ffered For Sale is a 1971 Datsun 240Z. I recently acquired this Z from the original owner who purchased it brand new back in 1971! Here's a very original 240, that has been kept in stock condition and was never modified or abused. All books, records and even the original, small California "pink" slip dating back to 1971 are still intact. It also sports the desired CA blue & gold license plates. Numbers matching, L-24 six cylinder engine runs good; 4-spd transmission is excellent. A rare opportunity, indeed, to purchase an unmolested 240Z that had only one owner the past 40 years! The "honey-mustard" gold finish is the Z's original color, and groovy on a '70s car. Mag wheels really set it off. Though other sections have been repainted, the factory finish may be present on the front fenders and hood. There is a little rust on the passenger inner fender well and undercarriage. The rear quarter panels and hatch need to be resprayed. Body panels are very good and dry. .......... .......... It can be kept as a historical souvenir for this 240Z, as I have the current CA Title and it's registered in my name. Cockpit is truly race-inspired with separate gauges for all the vitals. Interior is in very stock condition. Nothing has been changed since 1971. Door panels have no cut-outs for speakers. Stock radio is still intact. Seats need to be reupholstered, but are still the factory units with the vent holes. Gauges are a little temperamental and don't always function. Speedo, odometer, and tachometer operate fine. Interior and courtesy lights still function. Signals, lights, horn, radio, and even the cigarette lighter work! Door jambs have never been repainted. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ ............ ............ Click on the Image for Larger Picture The 240Z instantly transfers you to another era when The Eagles were always on the radio and driving for the heck of it was something you looked forward to. Z's ran strong and were always appealing to the eye. The bullet-proof 240Z engine is straight-forward and simple to work on. You can perform much of the maintenance with just basic hand tools, and parts are still readily available. Motor is solid and strong; idle is quiet and steady. This is the factory 240Z engine that came with the car, and miraculously, nothing has been modified. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture This Z has not been on the road since 2005. As a result, the fuel system needs some attention, and a full tune up would be in order for peace of mind. From what I gather, the fuel pump may be on its way out, as the car sometimes lacks power by what seems to be it not getting enough gas. Other times it will be fine and rev freely. Perhaps it's a pinched fuel line. Also, there must be a leak in either the tank or hoses, since fuel disappears quickly, even after putting several gallons in and not driving it much. I don't see dripping, so it must be evaporating. Transmission and clutch are excellent. Shifting is easy as pie and feels great. Brakes are fine, too. Temperature runs cool. Tires are old and will need to be replaced, especially the rear, from sitting. Hear the Engine Run! Click on Video Clip Above ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............
