Vehicle Detail
Sporty, Classic, & Collectible 1968 Porsche 912 O ffered For Sale is a 1968 Porsche 912. It's in stock condition, and the kind of car that's hard to find nowadays at a decent price. This classic and sought after Porsche features a black on black color combination with highly desirable Fuchs wheels. The four-cylinder engine runs good and the transmission is a 5-speed type 901 gearbox; twin carburetors are Webers. The timeless beauty of these early Porsches has certainly aged well...and definitely, like fine wine, gets better with time. The design is so simple and pure - no gadgets, spoilers, flares, whale-tails, etc. It's a work of rolling art. No wonder everybody wants one! This example offers a great opportunity to acquire an affordable, vintage Porsche you can still drive and enjoy, while tinkering around, and taking steps to make it your own. The sporty and charismatic look of a black coupe, with chrome accents and Fuchs offers one of the best combinations a classic Porsche enthusiast could hope for. Cockpit is truly race-inspired with complete VDO five gauge layout that is classic Porsche. Interior looks to be in relatively stock condition, with some period mods, and routine wear from over forty years of use, such as cracks in the dash and tears in the seats. Rubber mats are in great shape. Headliner is in decent condition with no obvious tears. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The electrical on this 912 needs sorting. Generator light is always "on;" most of the gauges don't work; signals are temperamental; wipers & horn are not functioning. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture The exterior was repainted black, but I believe the factory color is sand/beige. The paint shines nicely and looks glamorous, but it’s an older respray, with some blemishes and imperfections. Overall, the body is straight, and the doors close easily and solid. Fortunately, the body of this 912 is quite dry. ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture Rear deck lid has holes that need to be filled. Red PORSCHE reflector is a little crooked. ........... Click on the Image for Larger Picture Trunk is in very decent condition with felt carpeting, steel wheel/spare, and factory jack. The floorpans are NEW - both left & right sides, so no worries there. Front area looks solid, too, showing no rust or corrosion. Driving a classic Porsche is pure fun - both for driver and passenger. This car instantly transfers you to another era when The Beatles were always playing and driving just for the heck of it was something you looked forward to. In the back, you’ll find the air-cooled Porsche four-cylinder motor, equipped here with dual Weber carburetors. It's a tried and true specimen that is very reliable and bullet-proof. What's wonderful about vintage Porsches is that they're straight-forward and simple to work on. You can perform much of the maintenance with just basic hand tools, and all parts are easily available through on-line vendors like Pelican Parts.com . Motor is solid and sounds strong. This will be shown in a short video clip below. It also doesn't smoke. The carburetors could stand a little tuning, as there's some "popping" sounds and sometimes even a back-fire. The motor idles nice and steady. Transmission is fine. Clutch is good with no chattering or odd sounds. Shifting requires a little skill to get into fourth, but all the other gears are fine (even 2nd) with no ill manners such as popping out of gear, etc. Brakes are good - no pulsating, vibrations, or noises. On the freeway, there's no wheel shimmy and everything is solid. Take a Test Drive! Click on Video Clip Above .............. .............. ............ The example offered here presents a good value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles. This 912 needs some sorting, but it'll make a great weekend toy or a fine candidate for someone who’s always wanted to join the club. This steadily increasing investment is safer than the stock market and is something that can be enjoyed, now and in the future. It's priced right, too, so feel confident in your bidding.
