Vehicle Detail

Up for sale today is a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang in very restorable condition. It starts and runs (you have to let it warm up before it idles by itself) and has a ton of power. The previous owner started on setting it up for racing but decided to go with a different car. They moved the battery to the trunk. They replaced the fuel tank with a new one and added an electric fuel pump and an additional fuel filter. The interior is mostly original and is in okay shape. The seats are worn and have some seams starting to come apart but the previous owner used black duct tape so they are not all that noticeable. The steering wheel is not the original and the horn is not hooked up. The previous owner added a tachometer, oil pressure gauge, and water temperature gauge but someone tried to steal them (but got caught) and had some of the wires disconnected so only the oil pressure gauge is operational at the time. The wires are all there to hook everything back up but are not connected. When they were disconnecting wires they also pulled one of the ignition wires loose (at least that's what I was told). You have to hook up the wire from the ignition coil to the power block and the car will start right up with the key. If you leave it connected all the time the generator stays active and will eventually discharge the battery. The air filter assembly is missing but a new one is only $45 on the internet or less if you go to a junk yard. Now for the not so nice. When the previous owner was trailering the car onto a landscape trailer instead of a car trailer he caught the muffler and pipes on the edge of the trailer and damaged one of the mufflers and broke the header pipe on one side where it goes from the four ports into the single pipe. You may be able to weld it back together but I would replace it (and will if I don't get my reserve of $4000 because I will fix it up later in the winter or next year). The floor pans are starting to get rough and the previous owner made a few patches with sheet metal. The best solution would be to replace the floor pans but they're not beyond repair if you do it now before they get much worse. The body is in pretty good shape over all for a 1965 vehicle. There is some bubbling around the rear wheel wells and some surface rust starting to appear especially around the back window (see the pictures). The bumpers are in tact but they have some rust and pitting on both the front and rear bumpers. The door handles are both fully operational but have the typical pitting. The glass and the trim are in good shape with the exception of the window seals around the driver and passenger window that connects right to the bottom of the window (easy pieces to replace, you basically just slide them into place). It has an older radio but definitely not the original (maybe from the 80s if I had to guess. I don't know of the condition because I've had no reason to try it but I would replace it with an original if it were me. The carpets are in pretty good shape but the drivers floor has a worn spot. All four windows go up and down but the bushings in the drivers door are worn to if you go too fast it slips a little and you have to pull it back up with your hand and then you can crank it back up or down. The front and rear frame rails appear to be in good shape. The shock supports look good. The car is still stiff and sits straight. The tires are dry rotted and work for rolling and moving the car but before putting it on the road it will need new tires. The brakes work good but the emergency brake needs to be repaired. It still works but it isn't in the right position and track so right now I don't use it (I think if you can get it back in the track/groove it should be fine because you can pull it in and out (but I don't think it has the original handle based on the other Mustang I owned prior to this one). I am being completely honest because I want to make sure you know what you're getting. I will keep this as a winter project if it doesn't sell but I picked up another car for even less and it's in better shape so it will be a better/easier project for me. I want you to be happy so if you have any questions at all ask me and I will do my best to answer them. This car is a great restoration candidate but it will take some work to the body and a little tweaking of the carb. The transmission is good and according to the previous owner the clutch has right around 1,000 miles on it (along with a lot of work on the engine) but I don't have any receipts because he did everything himself so I can't prove it. He was planning on fixing this one but did the same thing I did. I bought this one and then found another one with lower miles and in a little better shape so easier to restore. This could be your project (or it may be mine for later in the winter or next year). Bid to win. If it doesn't hit the reserve I may still offer to sell it to you at the lower price but it depends on how close to the reserve it gets. I have to assume that the mileage on the car is 127006 because they would have told me if it only had 27,006 original miles when I bought it. On Oct-10-11 at 08:31:40 PDT, seller added the following information: I lowered the reserve to $500. I don't want people not bidding because they think they won't win. Highest bidder wins.
