Up for auction: 1978 Mercedes Benz 300 D with only 172,164 original miles. This cute car was a daily driver for me and never had any problems, I replaced the glow plugs with Bosh quality, and after replacing the fuel lines (Biodiesel compatible), I haven't been able to get it started. So for the last two years it's been sitting in front of my house and my landlord says it has to go.. My lose is your gain and am forced to sell this as a 'non-running' vehicle. I believe it is a simple fix, I'm not a mechanic but my guess is the primer pump to bleed the air out of the gas lines is faulty... by the way the clear fuel filter isn't full. I charged the battery and she turns over just fine but it doesn't fire up. Might be a glow plug relay not sure and have never had it in the shop. Comes with lots of service records so I know the first owner kept it in good running order... Tires are Toyo and in good shape, full size spare with matching rim makes for a nice 5 tire rotation. Accelerator cable is frayed and will need to be replaced. The driver side door was has a hyperflex crease or dent and needs a new window regulator to work correctly. The body lines are great and the paint is very nice. As with all older Air Conditioners this one will need to be serviced. Comes with original tire iron and lift... Has original Title and VIN# 12313012096467 It is clear no accidents and with all pre-'81 cars it has a shortened 14 digit VIN which doesn't work with the current 18 digit VIN search engines. This car is offered with NO RESERVE and will be sold. You will not find a better candidate for a Veggie Oil conversion project... new glow plugs and under 175,000 miles. Will try to start her up again tomorrow, '78 and only started rarely so with this much air still in the fuel lines without it burped out I really can't be sure if anything else is keeping it down. So, I'll put a charger on tonight so we're full and report back asap. --I was asked if their mechanic could check it, yes. Send your number and a time. -- I posted a photo of the drivers side open backseat door and side.. since I missed getting the door jam dent. The door jam bumper broke and over opened the door common problem, but the door should be replaced since the window regulator gears are broken so I was about to change the regulator, a new door and switching out the lock was my plan. On Oct-04-11 at 14:30:34 PDT, seller added the following information: 10/4/2011 Fully charged battery... Now the Glow Plug dash light is not lighting up, but it has heat at the glow plugs. So, I am back to thinking it is the Glow Plug Relay that needs replacing. Still not running, bid accordingly. And thanks for looking.
