Vehicle Detail
Have you ever wished you could have a new or nearly new example of one of the most famous bikes ever produced? As most of you know who are reading this, the V65 Magna was the original "muscle" bike and drag strip cruiser that, with over 120hp was the fastest thing on 2 wheels you could buy in a showroom for a few years. The story of this particular bike is that back in 1993 after looking around for many months, I located and bought this mint condition example of a V65 from someone who told me they were the original buyer of the bike from a dealer here in NJ. At the time I brought the bike home it had just over 2,000 miles. Unfortunately, right after I bought it, I had to serve overseas, and I ended up living and working out of the US for much of the time during the late 90's until just a few years ago. However, during that time, I have zealously preserved and protected the bike to the best of my ability. It has Never been stored outside during a winter, it has Never been driven in the snow or seen salt, and it's only been caught in the rain 2 times in the past 17 years. Although time is taking its toll slightly on the exhaust headers which are showing some signs of 'blueing', and some mild oxidation of the fork ends, for the most part the bike is in near showroom condition. I was so paranoid about damaging the plastic panels that for much of the time I was riding it, I removed the side covers and kept them stored in bubble wrap inside my basement. My efforts have paid off, as you can see in the photos that the original gas tank which the bike still has, shows absolutely NO dents, No chips, and only a few very light surface scratches which are barely even detectable. The tank, and the side covers are essentially in new condition. The same for the rear fender and most of the painted surfaces on the bike. The carburetors have been cleaned and adjusted this summer, and the bike starts and runs perfectly. As befitting a bike of this little use, there is absolutely NO issues with 2nd gear, and I don't want to get tons of questions about if the bike has the 'oil mod' to the head. As most people with knowledge of Magnas know, Honda had redesigned the head and the oil passageway by this time and it is no longer an issue if you take good care of how you use and maintain the engine.. You can be assured that this bike has Never been ridden hard, and never abused in any way. For all practical purposes, the bike starts, runs, and drives like a new bike. Besides the carbs, service which has been performed on the bike in the last few years (and with in the past 200 miles) include cleaning and flushing of all fluids, including brake, clutch, coolant, and all oil reservoirs. As can be seen in the video I will attempt to post of the bike, everything works.. all lights, both brakes, the horn, the choke, cooling fan, odometer, all switches, etc.... everything. There is only 1 single remaining issue which should be taken care of before the bike is taken on a long trip. Two years ago, I noticed the front wheel was getting the typical Magna problem of the factory chrome beginning to peel off the rim. Therefore, I took another used front rim from a V65 I had bought as a "beater bike" which was in excellent condition, and I swapped the wheels, putting the better one on this bike. However, the tire which is mounted on it is showing signs of significant dry rot, and although it holds air, it should be changed for safety. Since I know I'm going to get a ton of emails from all of you asking what my reserve price is, I'll tell you right now that its $4900. I also have a "Buy It Now" price of $7000. Before you start writing an email to me saying that I'm nuts, pay attention, because the Buy it Now is actually a better deal than bidding on the bike alone. The reason is because if one of you is smart enough to end the listing early at my Buy it Now price, you will get not only the bike, but also most of my spare parts stock that I've collected for it too! The total value of this collection of mostly NOS parts is at least $2600 - $3000, and you will get them for only $2100 extra. Many of the parts are NOS original Honda Parts, and are difficult or even impossible to find anymore!! The list of parts you will get by Buying it Now is as follows - 1) A complete NOS set of body panels (all in the Pearl Vintage Red color) including New in the box gas tank, side covers, and new condition (no box) rear fender - This impossible to find set of new body work alone is worth at least $10002) NOS set (Left and Right side) of OEM Honda exhaust pipes, new in the box! - value ? at least $6003) New KG slider backrest, including mounting brackets (see photos in another email) - value $350-4004) New reproduction Hondaline stock backrest and luggage rack.... OR .. ex-condition Original backrest and rack - value $300-3505) NOS Hondaline engine guard and forward peg mounts - $2006) Hondaline F.O.I.L. anti-theft security cable, Rare - integrates(plugs) right into the bike - $1007) NOS - instrument panel lens cover - $80-1008) good spare front wheel - $509) box of other new and used spare parts - at least $100, probably worth more than $200.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
