Vehicle Detail

1968 Morgan Traditional Sloop, tiller steered. Draft = 3'6", Displacement = 10,000 lbs, Ballast = 4500 lbs. Good condition. This boat has been re-powered with a 2 cylinder water cooled yanmar diesel engine. The engine starts easily, and runs great and smoke free. Engine hours are unknown. The fuel tank was cleaned last July (2010). The engine is well maintained and the engine control panel was gone through last fall (2010) and has a new tachometer and warning buzzer. The boat was hauled out in June 2010, and surveyed and new antifouling paint applied (see photos). At the time of the survey, the boat was valued at $11,300. Substantial improvements have been made to the boat since that time, including: New AC electrical panel with circuit breakers installed. New hatchboards and handrails were fabricated and installed. New tinted lenses were installed in the opening ports. Opening ports were rebedded. Most deck hardware has been rebedded, including handrails, hatch slider rails, hatch board rails, wenches, cleats, opening ports, etc. There is new Raymrine ST60 depth sounder installed July 2010. The boat is fitted for a Raymarine ST2000 tiller pilot, which is NOT included in the auction, but will be available at a reasonable price if desired. The Kenyon 209 pressurized alcohol stove has been refurbished and works great. There is a microwave aboard (not permanently installed) There is a portable window air conditioner aboard that cools the boat well when set in the companionway opening. There is a new Raritan marine head and holding tank (installed by the previous owner) that has never been used. There is a large Genoa, working jib and storm jib, all in good shape. The mast lighting was refurbished in 2009. New spreaders were installed in 2009. New electric and manual bilge pumps were installed in 2009. There is a brand new bimini, and mounting hardware, not yet installed. There is a large sunbrella cockpit awning for dock or anchor. The deck is solid with no soft spots, and looks good for a 43 year old boat. There is about 6'2" of standing headroom in the main cabin. There are a couple of areas that need some attention worth noting: There is a main sail, which is usable, but needs some attention by a sailmaker to repair some wear areas. The toerail has been glassed over in the past, and needs some cosmetic attention, sanding and painting, and some minor glass work touched up. This is primarily cosmetic in nature. There are bumps scratches, stains, etc. consistent with the boats age. In other words, this is not shiny new boat. It is a solid example of Charlie Morgans work, a strong solid design with a lot of life left in her, and she does get compliments on occasion. Many owners of these boats have removed the centerboard, as they are problematic, and the boat performs well w/o the board. I bought this boat w/o the board in it, but the hardware is in place to reinstall it. I obtained the board that came out of the boat from the previous owner. When I had the bottom done, I had the slot glassed over to prevent marine growth, but it was done in such a way that it can easily be returned to stock condition if desired. I think the only parts missing are the 1" bronze pivot rod, which is easily replaced, and the pennant cable needs to be replaced. The supporting blocks for the pivot are inplace. The CB winch and winch handle are both on the boat. This is a good solid boat, in good condition for it's age. It is ready and safe to sail. It has the patina of a good old boat, and responds well to a little TLC. I'm selling it only because my job is moving me to the desert southwest, and I can't figure out how to keep her. Otherwise I would happily keep the boat and continue the work I've been doing to make her shine. Payment must be received within 3 days of the completion of the auction, via Paypal. Possession of the boat must be taken at it's current location within 2 weeks of the close of the auction. The boat is in the water and is located near Oriental, NC. I have had two bidders cancel their bid claiming that they "could not contact the seller". The first had asked for my phone number, which I provided, and then heard nothing back from him. The second tried to get me to deal with him outside of ebay, which I refused to do. I have responded to all questions asked about the boat, and will continue to do so. I will block these bidders from future bids.
