Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1973 454 Corvette Stingray. This car was purchased new by my friends father. He sold it to another friends father some time in the early 80's & owned it since. He ended up owing me money on a business deal & he offered me the car. I took it roughly 6 or 7 years ago & it has been sitting in my barn since. I start it occasionally but never registered it. It's time for it to go. We believe the engine is original as owner #2 never touched it. He did put in all new stainless brakes, exhaust and gas tank. He also planned on a new interior & all the small stuff but never got around to it. As you can see, I have emblems, carpet & everything pictured. I do have the original "T" top storage bags but there buried in my garage right now. Before I took it, I had a guy check out the frame for rust/damage & everything checked out good. It was painted at some point & the paint job is absolutely flawless!!!! I drove the car across town & into the barn years ago & it was a perfect driver. As of today when I got it out, all I had to do was charge the battery & it started up easily. However....... It's running rough now & I'm sure the gas has gone bad. There was about 2" on the bottom of the tank & I added 3 or 4 gallons of fresh gas but I am willing to bet the carb has to be cleaned out. This is a small project & can easily be driving down the road in little time. I simply don't have the time to do it. Please let me know your questions & I'll answer them the best that I canOn Sep-16-11 at 20:32:29 PDT, seller added the following information: ****UPDATE: After I listed this I took it for a quick ride up the street. The engine did smooth out a bit but I still believe the carb should be cleaned out due to the bas gas that was in it. The a/c blows but not cold. There is an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold/gasket on the passenger side which is probably a loose bolt. It has headers, not stock cast iron manifolds which connect to the stainless exhaust pipes. The speedo cable needs to be replaced. It was making a terrible sound while going down the road when I first picked it up. As I recall, I think the end of the cable looked bad. I am in Old Greenwich, CT 06870 & you are all free to come & check it out first. Feel free to call (at decent hours, small kids at home) 203 962-5494. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pick up. I can help make arrangements. I do not have a "buy it now" price but will consider offers. On Sep-19-11 at 05:57:10 PDT, seller added the following information: I have confirmed this is the original engine, numbers match! The engine serial # and VIN both end with "409468" Trim code is 422. Paint code is 910 which which means it was originally white. VIN # 1Z37Z3S409468On Sep-20-11 at 14:40:22 PDT, seller added the following information: 9/20.... A nice ebayer directed me to look at the frame closely to some common trouble spots. I spent a good deal of time with the car jacked up & wheels off of the rear. The frame and cross member are in very good shape. I felt all around including top, bottom and sides near the rear wheels & tapped where I could with a small hammer. It all sounds very solid. I have owned several muscle cars in the past & used to do all major and minor work myself so I am mechanically inclined. This is the first corvette I've owned so I didn't know exactly what to look for as far as the known trouble spots. The speedometer works fine! It was the tachometer that needs a cable. When I listed this, I remembered a cable being bad & assumed it was the speedo. Ahhh, a true "senior" moment! On Sep-21-11 at 09:41:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Last update (I think). Ok, this car is a blast to drive!!!! I've taken it out twice now (I live on a private road so no plates=ok) & I'm impressed after sitting so long that it goes like it does! The carb stopped leaking but it's still a little rough at idle. I was thinking about stopping the auction, rebuilding the carb & have it running perfectly. Then I thought once I did that, I'd detail the engine compartment but that would lead to starting on the interior & that would lead to something else. Exactly what I don't have time for & why I decided to sell in the first place LOL. Word has spread locally & I have a very nice offer, only a few thousand from the current bid of 9k
