Vehicle Detail

Wow! 1974 Porsche Carrera Targa in ultra desirable Aubergine with tan sport seat interior. This one is for real folks. Original color (repainted once), original motor, original transmission, original ducktail (glass/metal), and on and on. Records show motor got a valve job and new sleeves, as well as case stud inserts on 3/1/91 @ 61,400 miles. Records show the transmission got rebuilt on 5/29/03 with 80,514 miles. Prior owner acquired the car in 2005 and at 82,633 the speedo stopped working. It was changed out for a rebuilt unit that had been zeroed out. The new odometer as of this writing is at 2,656. Assuming the speedo was changed out promptly, puts the overall mileage at 2,656 + 82,633 = 85,289. All other service and sales records substantiate this, however no documentation on the actual swap exist. The car was repainted once, and from the records of other trim items purchased, it looks like it was around 1991. Still looks very nice, but does have a few rock chips and few minor scratches here and there with a small 1" ding on driver side rear quarter panel (could easily be pulled by a paintless dent pro). No rust or rust repair is apparent, anywhere on the car. Also from records and per the COA from Porsche (included), the original vinyl Gold Carrera side scripts were changed to black. Motor has newer SSI stainless heat exchangers, oil fed tensioner update, air box pop off update and a K&N filter. Runs great. No smoke, and no oil leaks, at least none that have made it all the way to the garage floor, bottom of motor does show some very minor weepage. Transmission shifts good with no grinding or fussy gears. Shifter coupler was replaced recently by prior owner and could probably use adjusting by an expert to make things even smoother. Interior is in really good shape for it's age. Dash doesn't even have the ugly center crack yet! Period correct sport seats (74-80 with the early style frames) have been recovered at some point. I believe they are original to the car, however they are not mentioned on the COA (options like this are often missed on these reports). Carpet is new. Rear seats and seat belts are perfect. Rear shelf has some sun warping but complete and original. A few seals could use replacement if you plan on doing a lot of winter/rain driving. Targa top is in very nice shape. Most likely redone at some point. Suspension feels great and the car has front and rear factory sway bars. Records show new Koni's were installed all the way around in 1993 when the car would have had about 65,000 miles. No rust underneath detected including ALL the usual weak locations. Car drives straight and tracts like it's on rails. I just recently drove it from Las Vegas to Sacramento, 600 miles and it drove beautifully. Tires have 90+ % even tread remaining and are staggaged 195/65/15 V89, and 205/60/15 V92 speed rated AVS Yokohamas on OEM 7&8X15 Fuchs. Included in the sale are : factory tool kit, original air pump, unused original space saver tire and factory jack, Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche, records, 2005 sales records, 32 page catalog, original sales brochure, owners manual with a few original servicing stamps on the service record pages, 1974 Technical specifications booklet and a 1974 service information booklet. A couple little quirks include: separate keys for ignition and doors, the driver side door can't be locked from the outside with either key? Haven't looked into why, the key will unlock it though. Fog lights are aftermarket and the records do show that even the OEM on/off dash switch was ordered from Tweeks on 9/25/90. I don't believe the car came with fog lights at all, and their is no mention of them on the COA. I do have for sale separately however, a mint set of the original, 1 year only, chrome factory fog lights that would have come on cars ordered with them for 74. I will offer these to the buyer at a price discussed upon interest. This is an outstanding opportunity and priced to sell, so don't hesitate. It's not a concourse winner, but a very respectable driver. At $28,500 or best offer, I don't believe another option exists in the world to own a turn key, numbers matching 74 Carrera.
