I JUST BOUGHT THIS BEAUTY, BUT MY WIFE IS ON SECOND YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL AND LOANS ARE SMALLER AND WE WON'T MAKE IT FOR THE NEXT YEAR ON ONE INCOME. SO THIS WONDER HAS TO GO. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS CAR, IT WAS SOLD TO ME IN INCREDIBLE CONDITION AND IT HAS REMAINED. THIS CAR IS A SERIOUS HEAD TURNER AND IS FANTANSTIC. This year model was the first year Toyota came out with a convertible. Toyota wouldn’t make another convertible until 1991 with the Toyota Supra. This car was only made for a half a year. In 1985 this car sold for $17,000--$17,700. This car only came in three colors (white, black, and red). In February 1985 this year and car was named best buy and car of the year by road and track magazine. This car is very rare because Toyota only made 3,000 of them and around 2,000 actually made it to the United States from Japan. Of the 2,000 made only 940 models came with a power top with rear window defroster. This car was the last year of the rear wheel drive (independent rear suspension). This car later became the Toyota Supra as the Celica was phased out in favor of the Supra hatch back. With that this is the only year and make that has the Toyota Supra power and sport package. This is the last to be produced with a 98.4 wheel base which put Celica GT-S handling to match such cars as the BMW 3 series as well as the BMW M class. With the wide wheel base at 98.4 the Celica GT-S came dressed with oversized tires and wheels that only came with the Toyota Supra models. The length of the car was designed to compete with both the Audi and BMW classes in passenger room mainly in the back seat and trunk space. As for American cars it was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang and the Pontiac Grad AM series. This car was also the first year of the back seat split with complete fold down back seats. The cargo space is 9.9 cu ft. and the curb weight is 2,610 lbs. One other quick note: This was the only car to be designed by Lotus Esprit not Toyota.
