Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1955 Chevrolet 4 door Sedan that would make an ideal restoration project. I have personally owned this vehicle for ten years and sell it only with great reluctance and against my wife's better judgment. A daily driver until recently, this classic is in good mechanical condition. Engine runs well, transmission, clutch, and brakes are all solid. This vehicle has never been modified, although I know that parts have been changed out over the years. The body and the interior need some attention. The paint is faded and there is some light rust along certain seams, such as the roofline. There are a few places where body panels are rusting through, such as left front fender and right rear door - see photos. Bumpers and trim have some corrosion. I was told by the previous owner that the right front was repaired by the first owner after a minor accident in the 1970s, but the repairs were well done in my opinion and there is no evidence visible from the outside. The trunk and floorboards are completely intact with the exception of the spare tire well, which is rusted through. The carpets are serviceable with some fading and soiling. The seats also remain serviceable, however the front bench seat has two seams that are separating and the top of the rear bench seat has deteriorated from sun exposure. The left rear window has a single crack running from top to bottom. The issue most immediately demanding attention - and the reason I no longer drive the vehicle except for weekend trips around the neighborhood - is the electrical system. During my most recent military deployment the car was in storage for a year. A well-meaning attendant at the storage lot attempted to jump start the vehicle and hooked up the positive jumper cable to the negative battery terminal and vice versa. Since that occurred the break lights, tail lights, turn signals, gas gauge, vent blower, horn, and instrument panel lights have not worked. Starting, ignition, and charging systems, the headlights, and the cigarette lighter still work fine. I had planned to do this restoration myself, but I just received orders for a multi-year overseas tour that makes this impractical. This vehicle is almost completely intact, and currently drivable, so your parts scrounging efforts should be minimal. If you are looking for a '55 Chevy different from most you see at shows these days, this 4 door sedan would make a wonderful project candidate. This vehicle is locate in Seaside, California, about two hours south of San Francisco. Vehicle is currently titled and registered in Indiana. Buyer is responsible for picking up the vehicle or arranging and paying for all shipping costs. $500 deposit due within 48 hours of auction close. Balance payable by certified check within seven days. Please e-mail or call with any additional questions: Josh Hensley, jwhensley26@yahoo.com, 619-456-5065. Reserve set at $2000, very low for a car in this condition.
