Vehicle Detail

A very restorable 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu. This is a 2 owner vehicle that has been in Southern California its entire life. No body cancer or rust on frame. Only light surface rust on original paint. Both the transmission and the engine numbers match. The engine currently has an after market intake manifold but the original is in the trunk as seen in pictures. The passenger rear quarter panel and passenger door has good sized dents as does the drivers side front quater panel. Nothing that a good body man can't fix. All of the trim is intact and the bumpers and front grill are both very straight. The head liner is near perfect as is the dash that has been covered it's entire life. Recent tune up includes oil, transmission service, brake job and radiator flush and new battery. Tires are drivable but old and show signs of cracking and dry rot. This vehicle runs good but needs a drivers side mirror. Don't expect to fly in and drive this vehicle across country. Please plan on having the vehicle shipped or trailered back home. We have the original owners manual and service receipts going back several years. We are not interested in trades and won't end the auction early. Please look at pictures carefully and ask all questions. I am selling this vehicle for a friend and have a clear title in hand. I will assist with shipping but will not coop any of the costs. This sale is final and no express warranty of any kind is given. This is as close to a barn find as you're going to see. This is an original California Black plate car, and no i won't sell the plates separately. Good luck and thanks for looking and bidding. On Sep-07-11 at 21:31:43 PDT, seller added the following information: *********ATTENTION******DO NOT BID WITHOUT READING********* I'm being told that the Engine block does not have matching numbers. I have not looked myself but the owner verified that the block does not match the Vin# of the title. The transmission does match and is original. I realize this affects value and that there is presently 1 bid which I can retract if need be. The vehicle has power steering. Sorry for the late information. I hope this helps clarify all of the questions that I've been getting. Thanks again for looking and happy bidding. Some lucky soul will have a new project tomorrow evening!!*********************On Sep-08-11 at 17:56:41 PDT, seller added the following information: ****************It turns out that after professional consultation with a classic car guy the engine is the original one that came with the car*********Please read why we did not understand the stamping: Engine Assembly Date/Suffix Code: The engine assembly code looks similar to T0601ED. In this case the first letter "T" stands for an engine factory Tonawanda, an "F" or "V" for Flint or "K" for McKinnon Industries. The next two digits indicate the month of the year, in this example "06" or the sixth month, June. The "01" indicates the 1st day of the month. So what do we have so far in this example? The motor was assembled at the Tonawanda factory on June 1st. The calendar year itself is not given but remember that the engine assembly had to be manufactured and assembled before the car was built. What we have left is the "suffix code" which in this example is ED, a 1967 396cid with 325hp. Chevrolet used two letters to code the type, size, and horsepower rating of the engine and the transmission type to be used with that engine. The final vehicle assembly plant sometimes stamped a CON VIN (CON VIN) on the same machined area as the engine ID code. This stamping wasn't mandated until the 1968 model year but has been found (and not found) on 1967 models. If yours has the CON VIN (and hasn't obviously been re-stamped), you can be sure the engine is original to your Chevelle. The CON VIN might look like "T0601ED 7A123456" stamped into the pad on the front passenger side of the block. In this example, 7A123456 decodes to 1967 model year, Atlanta final assembly, and the serial number of the VIN. Sometimes the CON VIN was stamped into a different area of the block on the flange edge of the rear of the block, near the bell housing mating surface. Sometimes the stamping is found above the timing cover mating surface on the front of the block. While NOT a hard and fast rule, it has been found that mainly the higher horsepower engines such as the 327/325 RPO L79 and all SS396 engines have a CON VIN stamping. This CON VIN stamping is usually found on the engine ID pad located on the block in front of passenger side head such as this example. T0609ED ~ Tonawanda, N.Y., June 9, 1967 ~ 396/325hp w/manual transmission Note CON VIN stamped at Kansas City final assembly plant. Mandatory VIN stamping of all engines was not required by federal law until the 1968 model year, actually January 1, 1968.
