Vehicle Detail
I bought a group of cars that had been stored for a long time in Lubbock Texas. One of them was this unrestored, unmolested 1966 Mustang coupe. It is straight and virtually rust free. It has been painted with a cheap paint job in the distant past directly over the original paint, and in the original color. The interior is all original and needs replacement. The good thing about these models is that everything is available and new parts are VERY cheap. It is equipped with a rare bench seat and was originally equipped with A/C, though it was all removed except for the evaporator core, which is still in place and in good condition. Amazingly, all the interior lights and gauges work, and the radio might if the antenna was installed! The only rust is in the typical areas of the lower front fenders where the vent drains get plugged and fill up. The driver’s floor pan has slight rust at the front edge. All the rocker boxes, and other undercarriage areas are still showing paint/primer with no rust at all. I fired this car up and drove it 220 miles with no issues when I got it. It runs smoothly, the automatic trans shifts perfectly. All of the front and rear suspension and brakes have been recently rebuilt and this Mustang drives better than any one I have ever owned (… and I have had a bunch of them!). The original spare, jack and handle are in the trunk and both the ignition and trunk keys are original, I think. The 200 CI 6 cylinder engine must have been rebuilt some time in the past as it carries great oil pressure, doesn’t smoke at all, starts immediately, and just runs great. It is all stock under the hood with the original air cleaner, windshield washer bas, etc. the starter, solenoid, and battery have all been replace with new units. The tires are serviceable, but old and could use replacement pretty soon. The bumpers are pretty good, but the front valence and front edge of the hood needs some attention before getting new paint. This is a very solid, easily restorable car that can be driven as it is for a lot of fun. A little additional investment will make you more money. If you want to get into the car hobby, would like something fun to drive, or even have a youngster that would like to stand out from the crowd, this would be the perfect car. I have a good Texas title, and the car is currently registered as an antique vehicle and they are good until 2013! The car is located in Bastrop, Texas. If you don’t mind the heat, you can fly in to Austin and drive her home! I travel across Texas a lot and might be able to help with delivery up to about 400 miles for a dollar a loaded mile. I don’t know what this car is worth, but I know that it is worth way more than I am going to set the reserve at ($3100). So bid away!
