Vehicle Detail
1959 Chevy Bel-AirBrief history; For the second time in as many years, Chevrolet again came up with a totally new car. From the front or rear the 1959 Chevrolets resembled nothing else on the road. From the headlights placed as low as the law would allow to the cats-eye taillights, the 1959 Chevrolet was a brand new car with all new sheet metal, a new frame, and even new series names. The car was built on a 119 in. wheelbase and was 211 inches long-which was 11 in longer than the 1957 model. This made Chevrolet the longest car in the low-priced range, whereas two years before it had been the shortest. In addition, the car was 3 in. wider outside and had 5 in. more width inside than it did in 1958, through the reduction of door thickness. The Bel Air, which had been the top line series since 1953, was now the middle range. Bel Air production was 447,100. The new Impala line bettered Bel Air by 20,000 units.Motor & Tranny: The engine is a 235 in-line six banger, runs very well. It was rebuilt sometime ago, I was told by the last owner, I do not have any paperwork. The transmission is a 3-speed on the tree and is in working order. The rear end is stock. No power steering or power brakes. Chrome 12-volt alternator. Body/Paint: The car has had a paint job many years ago. The entire body is original with a few areas that are starting to bubble, please see the pictures. A couple of small areas on the front of the hood as well as quarters. All chrome and stainless are in good condition and original to the car and have not been restored. The chrome is showing signs of aging and the white paint is piling a little. Interior: The interior is brand new and is very nice. The carpet and head liner has also been replaced, Dash paint is good. The Speedo is not working at this time. All of the dash gauge works. Suspension & Wheels: The suspension is stock and drives straight and true with the front end tight. Brakes are original drum all the way around in good working order. The original 14in bia-ply tires on steel wheels with Impala hub caps. Glass: All the glass is original to the car showing some signs of aging. The car is for sale locally. The owner has the right to cancel the auction at any time for any reason. No warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied with the car being sold in "AS IS" condition.
