1978 Toyota FJ40 LandCruiser Information: *FEB/1978 Build date FJ40 LandCruiser *Numbers matching 2F engine and 4 speed transmission (all fluids changed in engine/transmission/t-case/axles) *Completely original engine bay - all emissions, vacuum, decals etc. . .equipment all in place. *Newer (85% tread life remaining) BJGoodrich Mud Terrain tires 33x10.50 on Original steel wheels. *New lift springs on stock shackles (new). *Lock-rite locker in rear axle. *Original dash, all blinkers, lights, switches and buttons work. (Including turn signals and switch - it actually cancels when you are done turning). *AM Radio is OEM, but needs an internal fuse. *Original headliner *No tears in any of the seats *Seatbelt buzzer even buzzes. *Wipers work great *Warn 8270 winch works great *Optima red top battery with brass fittings *New radiator *K&N air filter just serviced *Cruiser is in really really great shape, will go anywhere, can be driven anywhere reliably. *Not a show cruiser - rust was repaired in back half of cruiser and repainted. But is a very sharp 40. *No rattles shimmies or shakes - tight solid cruiser - drives straight, is not shaky on the road. Solid!! *Small dent in hood from tree branch - sorry :-( *Again, not a show cruiser - just a good solid unmolested FJ40 with 72000 original miles on drive train. *As you may know, 78 Cruisers come with a front disk axle, power brakes, full electronic ignition, and many other upgrades over earlier years, and is considered the most desirable year of LandCruisers. Thank you for looking :-) On Aug-26-11 at 08:16:06 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE: I wanted to answer a few questions that several people are sending me. 1. The dash is totally original - there is NOT a "dash-top" plastic cover - the dash as you see it is the OEM dash it came with in 1978. There is one pea-sized crack, otherwise it's flawless. 2. The paint (as you can see farther down in the pictures - the back half was repainted) has a very slight mis-match in color as you can see in Photo 1. From the cowling forward is a lighter green and is single stage. I used a base/clear on the back half and is slightly darker. ALSO - the driver fender is a new OEM (no kidding) Toyota fender! It was painted and installed when the rear half was fixed a couple years back. 3. It has a 2.5" lift, and the springs are Warn brand (black diamond). It rides very smooth and stable, there is not wander, steering issues, wobble, or problems. Its tight, secure and rides VERY smooth and comfortable. 4. There is some residual surface rust here and there, but I can't find any places that are an issue or "through". I've tried very hard to keep it clean and the rust issues solved. The underside of the hood has just surface rust - as it's never been repainted or touched - the emissions decal is original. 5. Seats have been re-upholstered and are in fantastic shape - no sagging, tears, foam issues or fading. 6. Transmission and tranfercase shift smoothly in and out of all gears - 4 wheel drive as well - no issues. 7. Cruiser starts VERY easily, idles at a perfect 700 rpm, and the fast idle (choke cable one click out) idles at 1500 rpm. Engine is very strong, and I have never used any "additives" in the 2F - only fresh oil every change. This is not a hobbled together and "throw on ebay" cruiser. This is my personal daily driver and I am only selling to acquire funds for a down payment on a house. Otherwise, I'd keep this one forever.
