Vehicle Detail
Hello and Welcome to my auction. Up for consideration is a restored 1970, Navistar Blue, Datsun 510 wagon. I have owned this car since July, 2002. I originally purchased this car off of a fellow in California through EBay and had the car shipped out to SWPA. I have included pictures of the car and I have many more pictures, including those taken during the restoration process. Additional pictures are available upon request. The car was running when I received it and had a very nice body insofar as any rust was concerned. All panels were in nice shape with only some minor pitting here and there, but as the pictures illustrate; the body has always been pretty much rust-free. Here is a summary of work done on the car: Body: straight, fairly rust-less beginning platform. The entire body including interior, engine bay, and exterior was stripped, smoothed, primered, box-sanded, and base coat – clear coat (chromabase) painted. The underside and interior floors were cleaned and por-15 was applied. Overall, the paint is still in great shape and is approximately seven years old. The car still presents itself well. A good buffing will make it look even better. There are a few minor imperfections. There is a very light rough spot (minor) on the passenger front door that is hard to see but to the touch can be felt. Much of the stainless trim has been sprayed black. Both front and rear (OEM) Euro lights are included as is the locking gas cap. Many of the seals have been replaced and the glass is very good. The driver’s door window rattles at certain openings but opens and closes okay. The dime also comes with front and rear spoilers and the spare tire raises and lowers as it should. Polished “z” wheels are included and include stainless Datsun caps. Mechanical: A rebuilt L20B with A87 peanut head with rebuilt 5-speed dogleg and new “z” clutch is substituted for the original L16 automatic. Dual z-therapy 38mm SUs are set up with a later-early SSS air box and a rare SSS brake master cylinder is on-line. A Datsport steering brace secures the steering box. A newer matchbox dizzy, NGK plugs and wires and MSD coil fire the engine. Front disc brakes are standard 510 issued with finned z aluminum drums in the rear. The car has been lowered about 1 to 1 ½ inches all the way around. The car starts, drives, runs, and brakes very well. This car can be driven most anywhere “as-is”. Both radiator and heater cores were serviced (cleaned, tested and reinstalled). The heater valve is NOS original equipment. The radiator is now three pass. All wheels were spin-balanced and the front end aligned. I had a local shop go over this car where it received a clean bill of health. Any and all receipts will be included with the purchase. Electrical: The wiring has been gone over and every attempt was made to ensure the wiring follows factory specs so the new owner can “see” what was done and can troubleshoot if ever necessary by utilizing factory diagrams. No mysteries here. Both fusible links are in place. Most everything works as it should including lights, horns, signals, wipers, etc. The windshield sprayers are off-line. I have not looked into this. Most likely needs a new pump. Interior: The interior has been upgraded with replacement seats in front and new 3-point inertial seat belts were added. The steering wheel is a nicer variety from a later Nissan truck. The dash top was replaced with new and the red needle factory gauges are included with a working tachometer (see pictures – don’t try this at home!). The fuel gauge reads a little low when the tank is full. The wiper switch knob is missing. There is an Alpine AM/FM/CD 4-channel head unit with 4 mounted Kenwood speakers. The antenna was replaced, the lighter works as do the dome light and glove box light and emergency flashers. The interior is very clean with small imperfections here and there. The carpeting was replaced when the car was painted, but it wasn’t a good quality replacement kit and should be replaced again, although it does work as is. I find the seats comfortable but that is an individual preference. Two sets of keys are provided: one key unlocks the ignition and gas cap, the other works in the hatch and door locks. That way I can’t drive off with the gas cap left behind. There is an owner’s manual, also. This is a quick overview of the car and I have described the car the best I could given the time and space. I can supply the most recent shop report(s) as well as all records since I purchased it nine years ago. If you have any questions please ask before bidding. My email address is: ottoisaok@hotmail.com As is normally the case with any used car it is being offered as-is, where-is with no warranty either expressed or implied. Shipping expenses are the buyer’s responsibility. I will assist with coordination of shipping as necessary. This car has not seen any winters since I have owned it and I have always garaged it. This car is a 40 year old gem and has a brand new PA safety inspection sticker (October, 2012). Most all of the hard work (and expense) has been done. This is a car you can enjoy right away and make it your own over time. This car is a blast to drive and gets looks everywhere it goes. Good luck and happy bidding!
