Vehicle Detail
No reserve auction for a running, drivable, and easily restorable 1977 Porsche 911 Targa Euro. It has the 2.7 liter engine with approximately 118840 miles (191,255 kilometers) on it. The odometer stopped working while the car has been parked over the last two years and waiting for it's restoration. It was on the road two years ago and being driven on the weekends in the summers but when the registration expired and it wasn't really getting driven it just sat in the garage of the previous owner for a year and a half and he decided to get rid of it so he could afford a home project so I bought it from him when he said he was going to part it out if he couldn't sell it quick. I didn't want to see a Porsche in this good of condition get parted out so I saved it. The problem is this is car number 5 for me and I don't have time to give it the love that it needs plus I'm on the road for work all the time so sometimes it sits for weeks without anyone even looking at it lovingly. I would love to keep it but I can't give it the love and attention it really needs (I've had several Porsches in the past and it takes someone who is willing to love it constantly to keep it in perfect condition). The exterior is currently guards red but it was originally gold. A previous owner painted it red many years ago and although it was an okay paint job it's starting to show it's years now. If you want a $30,000 car you should take it down to the sheet metal and repaint it the original gold. If you're just looking for a fun vehicle to drive you can keep it the way it is. There are a couple little surface rust bubbles starting to appear (one on each side of the back window and one in the drivers side door jamb) but none of them are bad yet so if you take care of them before they get much worse they will be really easy to fix. All of the glass is in great condition. The drivers side window was off the track when I bought the car so I rebuilt it using the existing parts and it goes up and down if you're gentle with it. In order for it to be perfect you would need to replace a worn piece of metal that's about $9 on ebay. I am leaving the door cover off for now in case you want to replace that part. The door covers are in okay condition (not good but not shot) but the passengers handle release is cracked and could be replaced. The original radio was removed by the previous owner so right now there is no radio in the car (I have what is supposed to be the original radio according to the previous owner but he said the tape is stuck and therefore the radio is useless in his opinion, you can decide for yourself). The dash is in great shape and I don't see any cracks on it at all. The seats are in good shape. The drivers side seat moves forwards and backwards and the back pivots using the adjustment but the release on the side of the seat to let people get in the back is broken. The passengers seat works fine. The back seats are there and are in decent shape especially for seats that are 34 years old and original. There are no seat belts in the back seats (I think it was an option but this car doesn't have them). The carpets and floor pans are in great shape (see pictures). There is a tiny amount of surface rust on the bottom of the gas pan but nothing bad at all and I probably wouldn't worry about it unless your going to do a full restoration of the car (see pictures). The tires are dry rotted on the side walls from sitting for the last two years in a dry garage. You can drive on them this way but I don't suggest it (I drive it around the neighborhood every once in a while just to keep the engine from sitting too long). Because the previous owner and I haven't really driven the car the gaskets are a little dry so the car smokes a little but it goes away if you actually start the car every couple days and keep doing that for a couple weeks (but I let it sit for about 3 weeks this last time so it's doing it again). The engine runs strong and revs up so I don't feel there would be any damage to the engine but it's up to you if you want to replace the gaskets and the rings to have perfection and to stop the small oil leaks it has. The heater boxes were starting to rust a little so the previous owner had them removed and put in a turbo exhaust since he didn't drive the car during the winter months anyway. It sounds nice in my opinion. I'm a fan of stock but this is still a Porsche part just not really original for a 1977 911. The targa top is in pretty good shape for being 34 years old. You may want to replace all the rubber gaskets but I didn't intend to let it see rain or snow so it didn't bother me at all if they showed their age a little. The targa top goes on and off as it should and it collapses down to fit in the back seat or the hood. I'm guessing it's been redone at one point during it's life because it's in good shape (not perfect but good to very good). As this was originally a European model the instrument cluster is in German so you get km/h instead of mph. The yellow lights in the back have been replaced with red ones to better meet the American regulations/standards. The original owners manual is included but once again it's in German so it didn't really do me any good. It has the original jack and tool kit. It has two spare tires. It does not have the compressor (unless it's tucked up somewhere that I didn't see). All of the lights, blinkers and wipers and wiper sprayer worked when I tried them today. The horn is the only thing that didn't work. When you push the button you hear a sound (maybe a relay or something) but it is not a loud horn honk. I don't know if the horn is bad or disconnected nor do I know where to even look for it. If it's a deal breaker for you then let me know and I will try to find it and do some testing to see if I can figure out what the problem is. This car is not perfect (and therefore I'm not expecting to get $30,000 for it) but it is a great base to start from or use it as is for a weekend cruiser that definitely turns heads and as there is no reserve you can bid what it's worth to you and get a great deal on a great car.
