Vehicle Detail
I purchased this volvo as a project and do not have time to continue to get it road ready and I will describe it as open and honestly as possible. This car will start and run. The engine sounds pretty good...no knocks. Transmission shifts well in gears 1-3 but the overdrive will not engage. Probably a solenoid or relay, there is an item available though IPD which will eliminate the need for both for a relatively inexpensive price. I am not a mechanic, just a guy that likes to "tinker' with cars-just as a hobby. I was hoping with a tune-up, I'd be able to put this on the road. If I had the time and knowlege to continue to put into it, it would probably be a good car with a little work. It is a GL model with sunroof, power windows, power locks, rear defrost, cloth seats, it has A/C, but not currently working. This is a fixer upper. The engine has a surging idle and will sometimes miss pretty bad when taking off to the point of stalling. It seems like a vacuum leak, but I have been unable to islolate the leak, if that's what it is. The body is pretty decent. A few scratches and a rust on the right rear fender and left rocker panel (see pics). I ran this car for hours on end in my garage trying to find the vacuum leak and it showed no signs of overheating. The car was repainted at some point...Looks like a fair, not great, quality paint job. It appears that the right front fender and passenger door have had a repair at some point. The paint is oxidized and honestly doesn't look as good as in the pics, but I tried some compound and cleaner wax on a few sections with a buffer, and it shined up pretty good. I have added new: Spark plugs, air filter, distributer cap, plug wires, air filter, fuel pressure regulator, and changed oil and filter. I also cleaned the MAF, removed the fuel injectors and cleaned them with new o rings. Carpet and seat covers are in OK shape (looks like aftermarket seat covers were added at some point of this car's life. The driver's side seat cushion is terribly detiorated. I will include a seat that I purchased at a salvage yard (passenger side) that will work as a donor for a new seat cushion. The interior plastics (dash, door pockets, console) are cracked as typical for most of these cars. Power windows and locks work fine. The hood hinges are broken, they still allow the hood to open, but have caused a misalignment and some bending of the hood. There are issues with the front exterior door handles on drivers and passengers side. Seems like an adjustment is needed on the driver's side, it will open with the key turned to the unlock position. The passenger side needs a new door handle. The car has a power steering leak and the exhaust leaks where the pipe comes into the muffler. Tires are fair. If restored to use as a daily drive, I'd replace them. These old Volvo's are known to run for a LOT of miles. With a little TLC, this one could go many more. It will run and drive, but the purchaser should make provisions to tow it to it's new home. I will include a new Haynes manual and a new Bosch oil filter which I had planned to use on the next oil change. Seems like a good solid car, as far as structure is concerned. Would make a nice candidate for a V-8 transplant (there are kits available) and would make a sweet "sleeper" car or could be parted out (i'd hate to see that) These cars are fairly easy to work on and parts are readily availble cheaply. Please feel free to contact me with questions and potential buyers are encouraged to come and see it. Mileage registered is evidently incorrect. I didn't know this until posted listing and the free title check indicated this. I did know this was a high mileage car, but now I guess I don't know how high. Still a decent fixer upper. There is no reserve on this car. Payment through paypal is required with winning bid. Or cash at time of pick up within 7 days of close of sale.
