Vehicle Detail
Have you ever wished you could have a new or nearly new example of one of the most famous bikes ever produced? As most of you know who are reading this, the V65 Magna was the original "muscle" bike and drag strip cruiser that, with over 120hp was the fastest thing on 2 wheels you could buy in a showroom for a few years. I have been a fanatic of the Honda V4 bikes ever since I owned my first V45 Magna back in 1989. Once you ride a bike with a V4, nothing else ever seems to measure up to the raw muscular sound and power that these engines are capable of. To this day, Honda still makes its top of the line bike using this basic engine layout. So, the story of this particular bike is that after I learned to ride for a few years on 500-750cc bikes, I wanted to move up to the baddest bike I could find, and it soon became a toss up between the V65 and a ZX-11(which I also bought later). Well, after looking around for many months, I located and bought this mint condition example of a V65 from someone who told me they were the original buyer of the bike from a dealer here in NJ. At the time I brought the bike home it had just over 2,000 miles. That was in 1994. Unfortunately, right after I bought it, I had to serve overseas, and I ended up living and working out of the US for much of the time during the late 90's until just a few years ago. However, during that time, I have zealously preserved and protected the bike to the best of my ability. It has Never been stored outside during a winter, it has Never been driven in the snow or seen salt, and it's only been caught in the rain 2 times in the past 17 years. Although time is taking its toll slightly on the exhaust headers which are showing some signs of 'blueing', and some mild oxidation of the fork ends, for the most part the bike is in near showroom condition. I was so paranoid about damaging the plastic panels that for much of the time I was riding it, I removed the side covers and kept them stored in bubble wrap inside my basement. My efforts have paid off, as you can see in the photos that the original gas tank which the bike still has, shows absolutely NO dents, No chips, and only a few VERY light surface scratches which are barely even detectable. The tank, and the side covers are essentially in new condition. The came for the rear fender and most of the painted surfaces on the bike. I've had the carburetors cleaned and adjusted just last week, and the bike starts and runs perfectly. As befitting a bike of this little use, there is absolutely NO issues with 2nd gear, and I don't want to get tons of questions about if the bike has the 'oil mod' to the head. As most people with knowledge of Magnas know, Honda had redesigned the head and the oil passageway by this time and it is no longer an issue if you take good care of how you use and maintain the engine.. You can be assured that this bike has Never been ridden hard, and never abused in any way. For all practical purposes, the bike starts, runs, and drives like a new bike. Besides the carbs, service which has been performed on the bike in the last few years (and with in the past 200 miles) include cleaning and flushing of all fluids, including brake, clutch, coolant, and all oil reservoirs. As can be seen in the video I will attempt to post of the bike, everything works.. all lights, both brakes, the horn, the choke, cooling fan, odometer, all switches, etc.... everything. There is only 1 single remaining issue which should be taken care of before the bike is taken on a long trip. Two years ago, I noticed the front wheel was getting the typical Magna problem of the factory chrome beginning to peel off the rim. Therefore, I took another used front rim from a V65 I had bought as a "beater bike" which was in excellent condition, and I swapped the wheels, putting the better one on this bike. However, the tire which is mounted on it is showing signs of significant dry rot, and although it holds air, it should be changed for safety. I am listing the bike here initially, as part of a huge lot of V65 bike and parts. The reason is because if someone buys it from me, I will no longer have a V65, and I seriously doubt if I will ever be able to find another one as nice as this one again. So, I am reluctantly giving the lucky winner of this bike 1st dibs on a huge amount of parts I've collected for it over the years. Many of the parts are NOS original Honda Parts, and are difficult or even impossible to find anymore!!! 1) NOS gas tank in primer - worth at least $350(unpainted, if painted they are $600)2) nearly new condition rear fender - worth $1003) NOS set of side covers - worth at least $300-375 (these are totally unavailble, and could be the only set like this in existence. ALL of the other new side covers you see advertised the past few years on ebay are ONLY black ones, that usually sell for $190-200)4) New KG slider backrest, including mounting brackets (see photos in another email) - value $350-4005) New reproduction Hondaline stock backrest and luggage rack.... OR .. ex-condition Original backrest and rack - value $300-3506) Hondaline F.O.I.L. anti-theft security cable, Rare - integrates(plugs) right into the bike - $1007) NOS - instrument panel lens cover - $80-1008) good spare front wheel - $509) box of other new and used spare parts - at least $100, probably worth more than $200.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PLUS - Additional parts I'm willing to throw in, but ONLY valid if deal is completed (deposit received) before end of the year> like new exhaust pipe - $200-300> Spare set of body panels in Black (excellent used gas tank, New side covers, excellent rear fender) ~$500> extra rear tail light and inner rear fender assembly ~$100> set of OEM handlebars from an '83 model V65.PLEASE do me the favor of at least letting me know if you intend to complete the purchase based on either option 1) or 2) above, or if you have changed your mind about the bike, so I can start advertising the parts elsewhere. On Aug-15-11 at 06:43:21 PDT, seller added the following information: **************************************************************************************************** I apologize to everyone bidding on my V65. I started working on this listing last week, and then when the power went out at my house I lost my internet connection, and was just able to get it working again this morning!! So, what was supposed to be only a draft of the final listing "went live" before I had intended it to, and it is not clear what I am offering in this listing. YOU SHOULD IGNORE EVERYTHING WRITTEN ABOVE that starts with the numbered 1) - 9) parts list, up to this red text! Below you will find what I intended for it to say about the parts!! Thanks, and please forgive me for the confusion. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING TO UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION IF someone wishes to click on my Buy it Now price, you will receive the following items - 1) The bike as pictured in the first photo, with about 2670 +/- miles on it. Since this photo was taken, I have added a Honda OEM backrest and luggage rack, as can be seen in another photo. 2) In addition to the bike, you will also receive most of my collection of NEW OEM Honda V65 parts!! I Guarantee you that the value of the parts alone that I am offering is well over $3000!!!! As a minimum, you will receive parts such as - 3 complete sets of V65 bodywork, most of which is in NEW condition. This includes a) complete backup set of bodywork in the bike's original Vintage Red Pearl color (NEW in Box Gas tank, New in Box side covers, used, but new condition rear fender) b) complete set of bodywork in Black color, including New in Box side covers, repainted and new condition rear fender, used, but excellent condition gas tank in Black (has a very mild dent in the side, but barely noticeable, and could be popped out) c) complete set of bodywork in the 1986 Candy Apple Red color that has been repainted by Aarongd (well known V65 parts seller and restorer here on ebay) If you look for his items, you will see he sells these sets for $1000! This set is in nearly perfect condition, with the exception of the rear fender which shows some wear, but is still good! (see photos) - a set, both left and right of brand new in the box Honda OEM exhaust pipes - these are impossible to find anywhere these days and are a Must for anyone who wants their Magna to look like showroom new. - all of the parts shown in the last photo, which include 2 spare tail lights, a good working FOIL security cable, a new in box dashpanel cover, and a good rust free reserve tank. - a spare set of wheels (front and rear) in good used condition - If someone wishes to put in the time and effort to have them rechromed and restored, it would make the bike look even more amazing - a brand new engine guard, also shown in the photos - a brand new KG slider backrest!! - a used set of 1983 Honda OEM V65 handlebars. As most Magna fans know these are sought after because they are adjustable, unlike the handlebars used on the newer models. - I may be able to also find a Hondaline windscreen for the bike and some other parts that I haven't mentioned. BOTTOM LINE - FOR THE BUY IT NOW PRICE, YOU WILL RECEIVE THE BIKE AND ALMOST ALL OF MY SPARE V65 Parts!!. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the bike meets my reserve, but does not go over $5000, then you will just win only the bike, but I will give the winner first choice to purchase any of the spare parts listed above separately at a very reasonable price IF THE BIKE DOES NOT SELL, I WILL RELIST IT IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEARER LISTING, and probably take away the option of the package deal. Again, sorry for the confusion!.
