Vehicle Detail
This is an incredible 1959 Oldsmobile Super 88 4 door hardtop which I bought this past March from the daughter of the original owner (who's now about 70 years old). The car had been sitting in her garage on 4 flat tires, covered in cobwebs for over 25 years. The car has all four original working T-3 headlights, original color coded Olds floormats, and what I'm certain is the original spare tire. Also included is the original owners manual and original GM set of keys. While the terms 'Survivor" and "barn find" have been generously used to describe cars which were neither, this car is a perfect example of both. The car hadn't been started during the 25 years it sat in that garage, and in the process of getting the original 394 cid / 315 hp motor running I had the radiator re-cored ($625 alone), both the dual action fuel pump and original water pump professionally rebuilt. I replaced the front motor mount, installed NOS Delco spark plug wires, new AC spark plugs, new points, cap, rotor, and condenser. I also replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses, installed new US made Gates belts, and installed reproduction premolded heater hoses from Fusick automotive. I installed a NOS genuine Delco battery and replaced the battery cables with OEM type American Autowire cables. There's a new air filter element, and a fresh crankcase of Lucas 15/40 oil. While I didn't get to rebuild the original 4 bbl carburetor, there is a brand new kit included with the car. Odometer shows 35731, but the actual mileage may well be 135731. The car starts right up and idles great with no smoke or unusual noises! I drove the car up and down my block and the transmission seems to shift fine. The car has factory power steering and power brakes. The rear axle ratio is 3.23 The body of this car is absolutely amazing, the car still wears it's original two tone paint. While there are some very minor bumps here and there to be expected from being driven by an elderly driver, the body is nearly rust free with no previous repairs. All original body panels! Zero rust underneath the car, perfect cabin and trunk floors. Rust-free quarter panels, doors, etc. The passenger side fender has a rust spot at the bottom where the fender was pushed up slightly, and there are two very small areas about the size of a quarter blistered under the hood above the wheelwells visible when the hood is opened. All of the original date coded EZ Eye factory tinted glass is in perfect shape with no delamination, no cracks, chips...nothing. The glass seals are still soft and not cracked even at the front or rear glass. The interior is original, and in really nice shape, however there is some wear on the drivers armrest, and the material on the bottom cushion of the front seat is torn along the outter edges as seen in the pics. While the backrest is excellent, the foam beneath the lower front cushion is dry and brittle. The rear seat is perfect, the carpet is original and really nice. All doors open and close as if new. The trunk is in great shape, and the original liner is 100% intact and in super shape. I hand rubbed the body down with clay bars since I didn't want to compound it, and the original paint looks beautiful. There is a coat of wax over most of the paint now, however there is more detailing and chrome polishing to be done. The bumpers shine up very well but are not perferct. I have not gone through the brakes, but they do stop the car. Loading and unloading of this car will not be a problem. The exhaust is good, and has the motor running whisper quiet. Please feel free to ask questions, my phone number is 917-836-5424 or you can email me through ebay. Here's a video link to a brief walk-around with the motor running. Please note, that the whining sounds you hear in the video is my neighbors trimmer and not the Oldsmobile. http://s473.photobucket.com/albums/rr94/petersen43/?action=view¤t=57chevy030.mp4 Last photo shows the car as it was found in the previous owners garage. thank you
