Vehicle Detail

SICK OF THE SAME OLD OVERPRICED DIESELS?!? I'm sure the diesels are nice...over a quarter million miles on em...sometimes 300, 400k miles....all for the low low price of $7-8-9-10k.....WHAAATT??? (This is where you hear the sound of the record scratching interruption.) Back to the planet I live on...NO RESERVE!....I'm selling a decent shape truck with plenty of life left in it. The Free Autocheck scores it ABOVE AVERAGE! KBB.com lists it as $4115 for private party in FAIR condition. In fact, I recently bought it for personal use....plow, trailer pulling, etc....but it's actually a little TOO big for my needs and tastes! Yes really. I never installed anything but this truck is fully ready to haul and pull and move. I really only need a base vinyl seat, regular cab, shortie 4x4....which I just recently bought. No need for this one...MY LOSS YOUR GAIN! Being a recent trade-in, this truck needed a few things...and still does to be perfect for reliable use. Obviously a new driving light bulb. When I got it, it had the typical dragging right front caliper. I've replaced it and installed new front pads. It's still a little lazy so I'm going to do my best to flush the lines now with replacement of the rubber line to be performed if needed. Expect the brakes to work properly as part of this purchase. All suspension items are tight with only the right upper ball joint having some play. I didn't replace it, so it will be needed at some point. Driveshafts and joints are solid. 4WD works perfectly and seems to engage properly in low and hi modes. I inspected the transfer case housing for cracks or leaks. Only typical output seal sweating. Front and rear diffs are noise and leak free. I've installed new spark plugs, but it still needs cap/rotor/wires as there are little random misfires present(causing the Check Light to come on). Brand new air filter and oil change performed. PCV cleaned. Engine doesn't leak anything that I can see. No overheating present. Air conditioning blows cold(huge bonus!). Truck starts right up and drives decently straight considering the straight axle design. No ridiculous vibrations or even tire noises....pretty quiet, in fact, even at 80mph. Chrome front bug shield looks great on the black truck. Only a couple other chrome accents on the truck besides the bumpers and side step bars....a chrome gas cap and door handle covers. Side wind vents are also installed. Front and rear tires (on nice factory chrome steelies) have plenty of life left in them. No road noises or uneven wear. Spare tire is the steel version with a usable tire to get you home when needed. Black paint has seen better days but shines nicely. Recent detail and wax. Upper roof lighting works properly. A handful of rust bubbles mostly on fender areas. Typical rusted thru panels under the driver and passenger doors. Only rust on the driver's side cab, minimal on passenger. Typical lack of front mudflaps. You can even see how this happened with the little bit of mud flung up from my driveway to take pics! Here you can see the clearcoat flaked off on the driver's rear bed. Tiny little rust bubble. All typical of a 98 RAM. Straight panels otherwise with no signs of any major accidents. Rear trailer hitch is huge and comes with wiring harness plug junction. All nicely mounted and positioned. Don't forget the nice truck liner covered by a Truxedo Tonneu cover! Previous owner installed REAR flaps tho....no rust back there...duh! All of the visible rust seems purely cosmetic...mostly from lack of mudflaps! The underside and wheelwells seem super solid. I don't get why someone wouldn't install $30 mudflaps to save the exterior...IDK...it is just a work truck after all. You KNOW the 2500 is the one you want....thousands LESS than a diesel. Can't put a plow on a 1500 without destroying the hubs and springs over time. Diesel and Gas are nearly the same price and most likely get the same mileage. Not to mention you can get parts for the gassers all day, engine-wise. Don't forget this truck is SUPER-EASY to work on...plenty of room to get to everything. Interior is an 8 out of 10. Carpets have been cleaned but could probably go a 2nd round. Cloth and panels look great. Typical hole up top on the plastic dash board that can only be seen from thru the front windshield. Driver's seat is a little saggy from the support spring coming unattached. Rear seats are excellent. Rear tinted sliding glass is a bonus. As stated before, check engine light is on, from random misfires. No other dummy lights are on an all illuminate as they should upon startup. On/Off switch for passenger airbag. Alpine CD radio is nice and seems to work properly. Power windows and locks operate. Cruise lights up but doesn't seem to activate....fuse? Not seen is the worn spot on the leather steering wheel...sorry....I thought I caught it. I've picked this truck apart and praised it for you. Recent battery is strong. No electrical issues or problems. The truck just looks plain tough! It's an excellent base for any of your needs for years to come....did you notice this is a NO RESERVE auction?? The truck is ready for you to drive home so BID, BUY, DRIVE ANYWHERE with 100% confidence. There are a couple other minor issues...the right side exhaust manifold leaks a bit....mostly a puffing noise. I'd spend the money on some bolt-on headers...or just take it to your favorite muffler shop. It's not very loud at all. Just there. Most likely the gaskets. Also...the transmission pan gasket has a light leak to it. The fluid is clean but might as well change the filter and fluid as it will come with a new gasket. Finally....there is a tiny drip of trans fluid up front, right side at the trans cooler junction. It's so minor, that I can't see it drip but it leave a spot only after driving (hot). As far as I can tell, it's the O-ring inside the "qwik" connector. You know...the connectors that slide around and you always wonder how the heck it seals if it can move?? I have O-rings but not sure if I can swap it out or if it needs a new fitting. Again...minor and operation of the transmission hasn't been affected. Fluid is clean and full. Did I mention this is a NO RESERVE AUCTION??? So....for the records...change trans fluid/filter/gasket, replace cooler O-ring, fix exhaust leak and replace right upper balljoint and run the wheels off this truck! GOOD LUCK!!
