The car was apparently parked for a number of years in a garage and was only occasionally driven. I drove it almost all last week, Solid, comfortable, dependable. The car has 72,000 original miles and looks, acts, and runs like it should. ENGINE – The engine starts easily. Sounds fine as any diesel. All pressure, temperature, and gauge information are correct as should be. TRANSMISSION – Glides beautifully in and out of gear. It shifts perfectly, smoothly, none of that snap-jerk action you often see on some older Mercedes. TIRES – Matching set of Michelins with good tread. If you look really carefully you can see a tiny micro-cracks and checking along some of the edges. )Otherwise excellent. RIDE -Outstanding, classic Mercedes. Just classic, low mileage, well maintained, heavier car comfort and stability. You don’t much feel the road, the engine, the wheels. It glides along pretty smooth. INTERIOR – Overall is a 9 on a scale of 10. Not perfect but extremely clean and well preserved. Little age showing on some console surfaces but overall very nice. SEATS – I want to rave about the seat. The single female owner must have weighed about 82 pounds! You couldn’t ask for a better driver seat. Expensive well supported, ultra comfortable, original Mercedes seat. The seat shows zero sign of being “Smushed out” as is very often the case with these older diesel Benz’s. This one is fresh, well sprung, and easily supports my 220 pounds. ACCELERATION – Slow! As everybody knows, these small block diesels are deadly slow accelerating. They just are. They are great cruising even at high speed once you are going fast and of course the engines themselves last forever but quick on acceleration… they are not. CRUISING SPEED – cruises nicely at 60 – 65 MPH ROAD ABILITY – This is so stable and sure footed at 65 miles an hour. I was doing 65 on Route 50 yesterday and where as some of the older cars in our inventory tend to hit bumps and bounce around, this thing is just like a tank. Steady and maintains constant contact with the road. WINDOWS – Simple, dependable, uncomplicated crank windows. HEAT – is working AC – It does have 3 separate temperature control dials that indicate cold or cool, but I cannot find an AC button. I am kind of perplexed by that. Either the AC is a function of the blue cooling button, or it just plain doesn’t even have AC. I am not sure which. RADIO – is the classic original equipment. This is the Benz radio and it works, but it isn’t that good. Really needs a new one. (We have some brand new, still in the box Sony CD player –tuners in stock for just $119.99. Includes a remote control Nice and a good buy. You install. Let us know if you want one included. I have 4 left in inventory. ) BODY – This is not a hermetically sealed, never had rust, in a wrapper, car. The car looks super and yes shows a little... but very little sign of rust. Certainly a thousand percent better than the average early 80's diesel Benz. Full disclosure here - I was told that at some point, body repairs were done with fiberglass work to re-do rust damage in certain spots in the sheet metal. The car was then repainted in it’s original brown. Looks like little use or wear since then. Locations of those spots generally down low in the traditional spots. ( my basic understanding - fiberglass repairs are less expensive than classic steel welding , yet still produce a very strong bond and result ) It certainly looks very very good, and will pass muster for I would think would be the vast majority of diesel car Benz enthusiast’s needs . However, if you need a time capsule type perfection car …just know it had the mentioned repair. OVERALL- If you're looking for a great 80's era Marcedes diesel, this is a good one. not perfect of course but pretty darn nice . PAINT – Looks great. Best of what looks like 80’s era, Ronald Regan brown. COST -As you can see in the pictures, the original invoice is still in the car. This thing hasn't had much use. They paid $29,000 total with financing in 1980's dollars ... What's that in today's money? Maybe $60/ $70 K or even more. Expensive car. If you just decide “this is it” and you’re truly interesting in taking the Benz , just call me. In the interest of selling it more easily, we’ve reduced it for the eBay sale. [It has been for sale locally, financeable, for $4,295 and it’s still here. It’s time for it to have a new home .] Now, it will just be sold at ebay auction, No Reserve , high bid gets it. In the case you’re interested, for the ebay sale, we’ve lowered that amount to the – “just sell it” amount to $2,888 to just sell it.
