Vehicle Detail
Corolla EV Conversion My friend and I built this last summer and we are now heading to college. The vehicle was a 1995 Toyota Corolla Dx with the 1.8L engine. It is now powered by eight 6 volt lead acid golf cart batteries connected to an alltrax AXE 450amp controller which drives a freshly rebuilt 12" GE forklift traction motor from a Hyster forklift. The Corolla accelerates smoothly and silently to a top speed of 40mph. The batteries carry the car over 25 miles per charge. When it does need to be charged, the car can be plugged into any standard wall outlet for a charge time of just 8 hours(empty to full)! The car is 100% street legal; it is registered, inspected, and insured in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Now, to the pros and cons: PROS: Fresh batteries with an expected life of 6+ years under daily useNew transmissionTwo new tiresRecent suspension workAirbagsRadio, power windows, and central lockingNew controller, which is easily upgradeable should the buyer want to travel on high speed roadsSilent OperationStreet Legal Spacious trunk "Green Cred"CONS: No A/C or heatBroken exterior passenger door handleFading paint on roof and peeling around windows, but no rustPrevious owner hit a deer Check out the conversion process at: http://theelectriccorolla.blogspot.com Overall, the vehicle is perfect for commuting, errand running, driving about town, or neighborhood driving. We hope to sell the Electric Corolla to someone that will enjoy it as much as we have!
