Vehicle Detail
We have here a beautiful classic Fintail Mercedes from 1959. I think this is the first year of the fintails, and a transition year from the Ponton style. I has that cool metallic green color from the early sixties, with a respray done a long time ago. The paint has beautiful patina, which we wet sanded and polishished to give it a nice shine. All door jambs, engine compartment, and trunk areas, including the underside, still have the original green. If you want a total restore a new paint job wouldbe needed. I choose to cruise her around with the classic faded style. All exterior chrome trim pieces are present, and straight. Some could use some polish to make them sparkle, but none are rusty enough that you would have to replace. The light lenses are all original too, although after 50+ yeats of use they are a bit cloudy. Maybe that $10 bottle of magic they sell on the info-mercial would make them shine again. Who knows? The rims are all straight, tires have lots of life left, and all hub caps and trim rings are there, and nice and shiney. In the trunk is a proper ( I don't know if original) spare, plus jack, and some tools all in their proper places. OG mat protects the solid trunk floor. Pictures show my golf clubs, You don't get those !!! In the interior, all the wood trim is present, and in good condition. The trim around the windsheild could use a little caressing, but it still looks great. The laminate dash is the only thing I would address. It is complete, and original. But, it has seen better days. Everything in the dash works, except for the speedometer. Which also means the odometer. I am sure it is just a cable, which I think I have a spare, and will try to get to this week. don't hold me to it though. All oil temp/pressure and fuel gauges work fine. All indicator lights inside, and outside, work as they should. Even the cool flip interior light works. The glove box is intact, and full of all kinds of history. It even has the first owners transfer papers, shipping it direct from the factory to a hospital in Africa. Pretty cool. All the seats and dash and headliner and nice and fresh. They were probably redone at some point, because they are so nice. I redid the visors. The only thing left would be to put some attention to the carpet. Some of the original pieces are there ( I think they are original ), and you could match those. Looks like someone tried once. Other than that, the interior looks like it was only driven on Sundays to chuch and dinner. The Engine compartment is neat, complete, and tidy. Engine runs like a German sewing machine. Is has the twin larger carbs. Everything except the battery and oil looks to be original. There is no power steering, power brakes , or air conditioning. Never had it, never will. Drives like a dream, and catches everyones eye. I will change the oil and filter for the new owner. Other than that, I doesn't need a thing. Pull on the choke in the morning, drive it until it is warm, and turn off the choke and you can barely tell she is running, it is so smooth and quiet. I wouldn't try and race a Camaro for pinks in it, but it will definately get you there in style. There is one small dent in the door. I tried to show it in a picture or two. Not bad, and no rust, but it's there. If you want any specific pictures, just ask. My disclaimer : PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING. PLEASE ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS, I WILL ANSWER THEM AS BEST I CAN. This car is older than most, but still in great condition. I wouldn't hesitate driving it across California today, but I also realize is older than me, and I get tired sometimes too !! I put 100000 for the miles. It reads 82500, but the odometer is not working I have the pink in hand with a clean title. I can assist in shipping, but buyer pays, and makes, all arrangements. Thanks for looking, have a great day I forgot my other disclaimer. Car is for sale locally, so auction will end if another BIN price is met
